Subject: Apology to China

----------------------------------

The United States of America apologizes to the People's
Republic of China for allowing our slow, lumbering reconnaissance
plane to be hit by your poorly trained, hot-dogging fighter pilot, while
flying in international airspace.
We're sorry we have to fly surveillance missions to monitor a country
that has nuclear missiles pointed at us.

We're sorry your pilot didn't follow international standards of fighter
intercept protocol.
We're sorry his aircraft recognition skills were so poor he didn't
realize the EP-3 aircraft was propeller driven and flew his aircraft
through its propeller arc, destroying his aircraft and nearly killing 24
American crewmen.
We're sorry your fighter pilot's survival training and equipment was
so inadequate that he couldn't survive until your poorly trained and
equipped navy could find him (they turned down our offer for search
and rescue assistance).
We're sorry you violated international law and arrested the crewmen
of an aircraft that legally diverted into your airfield under emergency
conditions caused by your pilot's actions, after being led there by one
of your other pilots.
We're sorry you violated international law and boarded a state aircraft.
We're sorry the world is now seeing you for the enemy of freedom, truth,
and democracy that you really are.
We're sorry you see yourself as a superpower when in reality you are
a third world nation (the average Chinese worker earns less than $.10
a day).
We're sorry you are loosing so much face over this.
We're sorry that you were able to steal some missile and nuclear
secrets from us.
We're sorry you haven't learned from the Soviet Union's collapse and
failed to embrace democracy and capitalism (compare tiny Taiwan and
mainland China; same people, same culture, but Taiwan's capitalistic
economy is a powerhouse and China's economy is still mired in
communism).
We're sorry for the future Chinese military deaths that will occur when
we retaliate for your roughish behavior.
And most of all, we're sorry for the Chinese people who suffer its
leaders' incompetence.

Acutally, I think if they do want to convert to capitalism, gradual transition is the way to do it. Look at the Soviet Union.

But yeah, I feel sorry for all the Chinese citizens. I think it's important for us to understand that it's the government that's the problem.

<< What the hell was that. Talk about a biased, one-sided, argument antiabit. >>

Actually, I can't claim that I wrote it. I am in the military, and it is what I received this morning from some of my fellow service members.

I will claim that I like it and I agree with it.

amen to that! Now try to get Bush to read it aloud on national TV. Haha I would bust a gut to see that.

<< We're sorry your pilot didn't follow international standards of fighter >>

Hm, were you there? Where is your conclusive evidence? Have you spoken to the detainees to hear what really happened?

<< We're sorry his aircraft recognition skills were so poor he didn't realize the EP-3 aircraft was propeller driven and flew his aircraft through its propeller arc, destroying his aircraft and nearly killing 24 American crewmen >>

See above.

<< We're sorry your fighter pilot's survival training and equipment was so inadequate that he couldn't survive until your poorly trained and equipped navy could find him (they turned down our offer for search and rescue assistance). >>

Well, lets see how well you survive if you crashed into another plane.

<< We're sorry you violated international law and arrested the crewmen of an aircraft that legally diverted into your airfield under emergency conditions caused by your pilot's actions, after being led there by one of your other pilots >>

They were never given permission, so where is the legality in entering another's airfield?

<< We're sorry you violated international law and boarded a state aircraft. >>

Since you seem to be an expert in international laws, perhaps you can help the Bush administration with this issue.

<< We're sorry the world is now seeing you for the enemy of freedom, truth, and democracy that you really are. >>

Where are you getting this from? Guess you haven't visited outside the US before have you?

<< We're sorry you see yourself as a superpower when in reality you are a third world nation (the average Chinese worker earns less than $.10 a day). >>

Ah, another so called 'fact' pulled out of your ass.

<< We're sorry you are loosing so much face over this. >>

They're not... if you have seen anything on the Chinese opinions, their leaders are gaining approval.

<< We're sorry that you were able to steal some missile and nuclear secrets from us >>

Wow, you must have quite the source.

<< We're sorry you haven't learned from the Soviet Union's collapse and failed to embrace democracy and capitalism (compare tiny Taiwan and mainland China; same people, same culture, but Taiwan's capitalistic economy is a powerhouse and China's economy is still mired in communism). >>

Hm, you're telling me Taiwan's GNP is greater than China? Do you have selective attention, or are you just plain ignorant of all the facts you've stated? China has had the fastest growing economy within all the industralized nations for the past 15 yrs.

<< We're sorry for the future Chinese military deaths that will occur when we retaliate for your roughish behavior.
>>

Oh please... 50,000 deaths in Vietnam and the country was crying. Entering the middle east with Desert Shield, before a single death occured, and half the population was against it. You think the US would enter a war against a nation that has nuclear ICBM? No doubt China would suffer heavy casualties, but so would the US. Would it be worth it to start a war over 24 crewen? A war in which the enter west coast of the US could be completely radiated, and some 20+ million deaths? I high doubt it.

<< And most of all, we're sorry for the Chinese people who suffer its leaders' incompetence. >>

The only intelligent thing you've said throughout this entire post.

By all accounts, the pilot ejected. You have to be VERY MUCH ALIVE to eject.

They were never given permission, so where is the legality in entering another's airfield?

Planes in distress can land in the closest airfield regardless of location.

<< Where are you getting this from? Guess you haven't visited outside the US before have you? >>

No, you got me there. Being in the military, I have never been outside of the US, nor am I currently stationed in Europe

<< They're not... if you have seen anything on the Chinese opinions, their leaders are gaining approval. >>

That couldn't be because the media is state controlled and run right?

<< Hm, you're telling me Taiwan's GNP is greater than China? Do you have selective attention, or are you just plain ignorant of all the facts you've stated? China has had the fastest growing economy within all the industralized nations for the past 15 yrs. >>

You are right. Chinese citizens are known to be some of the richest people in the world. Toys have been selling like crazy, and communist systems are known to pay well

The defense rests it's case

I apologize to China that our president doesn't have the mental capacity or social skills to reach out and work things out on a leader to leader level, and is instead sending his staff to do the important things, so he can devote all his time to paying back his corporate donors and playing baseball.

He has worked things out with part of China's dictatorship. However, the military portion of the dictatorship wants us to apoligize for entire accident. If we are not totally responsible for the accident, why should we? I mean China has stripped our plane of all its items, so I think they are covering up what happened. There is video, audio, logs, data, and other information that would be on the plane. This whole thing looks bad on their part.

I wouldn't apoligize for something I didn't cause.

"Planes in distress can land in the closest airfield regardless of location"

One major sticking point is whether military vessels are included in this international agreement, since it specifically used the word "civilian".

The point is, Bush should do some of these personal leader to leader talks. He doesn't seem comfortable doing unrehearsed things. I see a lot of theatrics. A lot of tought talk by Bush on American TV. What I don't see is Bush himself doing anything. This matter requires diplomacy on the highest level, including the president. It's OK to delegate things, but not in this case. This requires the leaders to discuss things. That's when Bush's bad communication skills are starting to hurt us.

On the behalf of the inept US government, I too also apologize to China on the point that our government cannot stop trying to become a hegemony in this small world. Sorry, that our leaders cannot stop spying on other countries that want to be a superpower in the future.

I also am regretful that our military cannot say outright that we were spying on another nation. Yes, listening on supposed secret communications without the expressed permession of the country is deemed spying.

I also deem it partly our fault that so many of my countrymen are so ignorant on the subject of China and Eastern politics that they blather out any thing that is pro-US and think its true. We as a polygot of different races and cultures should make sure our fellow countrymen recieve knowledge from some other source than US press.

We are also sorry that our government cannot also lose face over this mess, apologize and get our servicemen back quickly.

We are also sorry we keep on hassling you about human-rights violations when we are no better in our justice system.

We are sorry that even though we are a first world country, there are still children and adults in the US that are dying of starvation in the inner streets.

We are also sorry that we did not set a good example of diplomacy in the past and countinue this trangression presently.

We are sorry for the future military and spying acts that will cause more harm to Chinese territories.

But most of all, we are sorry that we have a ignorant president that doesn't know jack about foreign policy and cares more about pleasing his friends' at Camp David while he should have settled this mess immediately.

SuperTool you're leaving out the fact that the Chinese President or High Commander or whatever you call him isn't in China and happens to be in South America. Why aren't you bad-mouthing him as well? He doesn't even bother to go home when something like this is going on.

Chrisisbored: If your bored go look up Chinese politics on the net. You might not be so bored when you look up that China is actually a communist country. Oh WOW! And plus, Hu Jingtou is the one in charge right now, because he is supposed to be the successor to Jiang in the next 2/3 years. Jiang is giving him a chance to see what he can do with this situation. The is no good reason why Bushy is so slow in reponding, other than he had other matter at hand. Such as entertaining friends at Camp David or playing golf or throwing baseballs. Evidently, baseball is much more dear to bushy than other countries in the world.

I think the issue actually was (perhaps slightly improperly stated) that Taiwan's GNP per square mile is higher than China's GNP per square mile, or in another measurement, per thousand people.

Look, both sides were and are idiots, ok? Case closed.

yup they are both idiots, and they are both acting like 3 year olds to make sure that they aren't wrong. I mean in the typical 3 year old response i'd say something like

china: "Well our idiot pilot wouldn't have hit your plane if your plane wasnt spying on us"

US: (in typical , american we are better than everyone in the world speak) "We are allowed to spy on everyone because we are american you poor chinese bastards"

china: "you guys suck good thing we've got 24 of your MILITARY people and you have nothing of ours"

US: "We can put sanctions on you if our president knew what a sanction was"

I'm surprised any military servicemen would even be supporting Bush. I would be pretty pissed if I were serving the military, i mean come on, just apologize the China and get the servicemen BACK.

And saying China has nukes pointed at the US is kind of ignorant, AntiAbit.

BTW, i'm certain the Chinese could spoof a similar US 'apology' to China after the accidental bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade back in '99.

"Dear China,

I'm sorry that we accidentally bombed your embassy. Unfortunately we mistakenly looked up the wrong address even though it's listed in the local Phone book, and even though we have the most high tech satellites to accurately locate the target..."

A lot of countries have nukes pointed at each other. There is nothing new there.
