Seems like a pretty weird problem, but here goes:
So I have a 4 port USB hub made by ADS. It worked until this morning; and then without provocation, it just stopped working. The green lights along the length of the hub (which indicate a data connection) won't light up. They flicker for a second, then turn off. The power indicator light for the AC adapter is indicating that the power connection is fine.
Then when I plug it into one of my two available USB ports, it reads (on a WinXP Pro system):
"A usb device has exceed the power limits of its hub port."
It tells me to click the message and reset the port. So I'll select the USB port which has exceed its power limits and click reset. But my hub still doesn't light up green. And windows doesn't report any more suggestions.
In terms of the device manager. Both the "USB root hub"(s) and the "General Purpose USB hub" display that the "device is working properly". There are no obvious yellow question marks at all in the device manager indicating a problem with a device.
In terms of connecting USB devices directly into the back of my computer, that works fine - no noticeable problems whatsoever.
Lastly, I have a handspring visor pro with a USB cradle with one of those AC adapters that plug into the USB cradle wire which plugs into the hub which plugs into the computer. I thought that it could have been that for a second, but even without the handspring cradle connected, the hub won't light green.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
thanks!
EDIT: tried to use different AC adapter with same voltage settings, etc. all done and working, thanks corky g
