USB over Cat5e or Cat6

Is it possible to extend the range of USB by having it go over Cat5e/Cat6? I know that USB is not just limited by signal loss, but also the timing of the longer run(It takes longer for the signal to get there, so the other side stops waiting for it too soon).

But Cat5 should be able to help the signal stay stronger for a longer range, and I'm guessing that it should help extend the range at least a few meters.

Does anyone know of any detailed guides on how I could do something like this? I want to run a printer to the other room, but connect it to this computer. I'm thinking that it might not work, but it's worth a shot.

Yes, you can. But depending on the distance you will need some equipment at both ends.

At prices like those it would probably be cheaper to buy an ethernet print server off of Newegg.

I realize the cost is high. The link was mainly intended to show
what some of the inherent limitations of usb technology.
