Hey guys, over a month ago I got a Sager NP8250-S running windows 8 and it has been working great. The laptop has 2 USB 2.0 connections on the left and 1 USB 3.0 on the right. But for the past week the the two USB 2.0s have been making any device that is plugged in blink off and on. At first I figured it was a hardware issue such as a loose connection or some defective part. But today I tried using my USB hub on the ports that were not working and after installing some drivers for the hub they work great. But as soon as I try any other device they blink off and on. Any advice on a fix would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I realize it is a long shot and should not be happening under normal conditions, but you might want to try setting USB Selective Suspend to disabled, just for testing, in case the system is seeing the ports as not in use and trying to save power by not powering them on/off... to do this: Control Panel > Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > USB Settings > USB Selective Suspend: Set this to "Disabled".

May also want to check in the device manager and make sure you have no warnings or errors there - and in the event viewer to see if you can gather any additional information.

As a rule of thumb, when I see problems like this I try to update the system chipset drivers as well (find out which motherboard the system is using, then go to the manufacturer's website and get the latest version for that model - or if you bought the computer from a company their support/drivers section of their website should have the chipset drivers for your model).

So far I have tried using a Razer Mamba, Razer Blackwidow Ultimate, Logitech G500s, and a Leap Motion. All of which work when using them through the USB hub.

Yes the USB hub is using power from the wall, but there were no issues before when I used the same devices.

I think paul878 might be onto something there. Does it matter if the laptop is plugged in or on battery power? Does your laptop have additional power settings, or just the Windows ones?

I am think that there might be a fault in the laptop 5v usb power supply, that would explain why a power hub solved your problem.
