Im using xp home right now and when I try to configure the printer to use the usb port, there is no usb port option to click on. So what can I do to fix this?
its not a driver issue. There is no USB1000 port to select when printer properties askes for the printer port to use.. you know like the options are LPT1, LPT3, COM1, COM2, COM3, etc... There should be a usb one at the end of the list but there isnt.
Yeah the printer is detected. When I try to print it says "printing star" and you see the nice little lexmark box come up in the lower right hand corner with the percentage and what not... umm... I dont know why the heck the stupid thing isnt working. I installed the drivers on the cd that came with the printer. There was a problem and it said that the reason for the problem was that the printer wasnt configured to use the USB port... hence my attempt to configure the printer to use the USB100 (or whatever) port. But there was no USB100 port option to click on.
Can you use other USB devices? Make sure that the USB controller is on in your BIOS. Also when you plug in a USB devide you should get an icon in your taskbar that is the safely remove hardware icon, your printer should show up there. Updated drivers for both the printer and your USB controller on your MOBO can both be benificial, also checking to see if any of the BIOS updated for the motherboard resolve any USB issues could be helpful. With USB it can be troublesom when you have a problem, try differnt ports.
hmm.. BIOS.. I didnt think of that one. I will try it. However, the computer did try to print when I told it to. I thought that meant that the printer was detected...but now that I think of it, it may just have tried to print because I installed the prining software... I'll do the bios thing.
Basic suggestion: Look in the manual for your printer and see how to produce a test print from the printer itself. This will verify that it is assembled correctly, all the packing takes have been removed, and you didn't do anything really dumb like leaving the tape on the print carts.
Oh yeah. I did that a loooooong time ago. Thats where the problem started. It attempted to print a test page. Everything was good until it said unable to print. I think its just a software problem. The printer is gone anyway.
