Hi all,

I recently installed Microsoft.net on my machine, prior to this my computer booted straight into windows because I only had one account on there. Now the .net has created an hidden account for itself and no longer boots straight into windows, you have to click on my name on the user screen. I have looked at the user accounts to try and remove the password, but it gives you a warning you that if you do this you will lose all EFS-encrypted files, personal certificates and stored passwords etc...

How can I make my PC boot straight back into windows without removing .net?

Thanks in advance

Mark.

you can change how windows starts by using the control userpasswords2 applet. Type that into a run box, and it will open a window that allows you to specify an account to auto load at boot...

I haven't done it for a few months, so I might not be remembering all the details off the top of my head.. try it out and lmk

You can use TweakUI from TweakUI here to automatically log in without having to select a user, or you can delete the .NET account (it won't delete the .NET runtime).

You should still disable the admin account as this poses a security risk.....

just rename the admin account, and give it a password. no risk then. =)

TweakUI just adjusts the same thing the system appplet adjusts. Either way works.

there is an easier way
I can't believe no one ever seems to know this. When you install .net it creates a .net user account that doesn't show up in the welcome screen.. Just delete the acocunt and it will log you on like it used to.
