Value of computer estimate?

In the latest shipment of computers deemed "obsolete" by a larger corporation, ours received a number of Dell Optiplex GX-300's and GX-1's. The boss is thinking about selling them in lots on eBay just to get rid of them and reclaim office space; but I think individual sales might be worthwhile.... (and I haven't found any listings of these things on eBay)

Anyway, the typical specs of the machines we got are:
Tower style case
2x733 MHz P3
128MB ECC RIMMs
80GB IDE HDD (which actually appear to be brand new - the larger corp. is *really* concerned for its employees' data)
24X IDE CD-ROM
16MB AGP video card
Integrated sound, ethernet

The other machines have these typical specs:
Tower style case
1x550 MHz P3
128MB PC100
12GB SCSI HDD (I believe these are Atlas IV's, but I could be wrong)
24X SCSI CD-ROM
Integrated video, sound, ethernet

Any ideas as to the street values of these things?

My opinion......

Dump them all on eBay.....

Individual sales will take too much of your time, and that is worth money.
(not to mention your ..waranty..callbacks..support..etc..etc that never ends)

$30 - 35 a piece will sell quickly enough. Might not want to include the hard drive though, if data security is really that much of an issue, in which case the value of the system would diminish somewhat.

Another option is for you to sell them off the side of a road. Put a big sign out and sell them for $40 cash each. Saves you a ton of hassle with shipping and I guarantee you'll clear out most of them relatively quickly.

I'd part them out and sell the the CPU/MB/RAM together, and then the drives independently.

I like the idea of selling them for cash locally if possible.

Another option would be have a dealer buy you out. They would come pick them up and hand you the cash. saves the back and the bother. But in my thoughts the prices quote here are little low. I have seen dual 733mhz go for more. Also depends on the chipset and memory type. Rambus is not the most abundant memory. You could definently get more money buy parting them out, but as was stated what is your time worth? If your time is worth a lot then sell by the lot. If you like to drink beer and sit around the TV in the evening then you might want to part them out or sell single systems. I had some gateways configured about the same and there MB chipset was a little flaky. hmmmmmmmm..........Now that I think about it might be better to sell buy the lots.

Donate them. If you can find someone who will take them. We have about 70 computers at my company that are very similar to yours. We are donating them and taking the tax deduction.

Always a nice idea, and a company can afford to donate things easier than an individual. These aren't really lousy computers either, so you'd be donating some useful technology.

They are not low, it is realistic if you want to sell multiple units quickly. A big upset for online used computers is the expense of shipping; a buyer is hesitant to shell out that much money for something old. You can price them as high as you want, relisting after relisting, and you'll eventually get some fish that bite but don't expect to clear more than one or two systems per month that way. That's fine if one or two systems is all you have, but from the OP here apparently has dozens of them and unlike fine wine, an old system isn't going to be increasing in value at all. Local sales generally does well since there's no shipping expenses for the buyer, and those buyers aren't typically the type that scrounges for hot deals online. But even then you can't price too high unless operating a weekly flea market is your type of thing.

I'll let you guys know if my boss is willing to sell these individually or as lots only. I'm pretty sure he just wants to get rid of them, so a donation may be in order anyhow. (Although we do have about 50+ more 550MHz GX1's that could be donated..)

I'll also see his price point, shipping prices, warantee period, and all that other good stuff. Since I'm pretty sure listing these on the FS/FT forum is prohibited (these would be coming from the company, not me...), I'll just PM people with that information. I doubt he'd let these things go for $30-40+s&h though.

Anyway, does anyone else have any idea as to the values of these things? He's taking a hit of $13 per computer to have us service them, and IIRC, is paying the client some fraction of the resold ticket price for getting rid of them. I'm just trying to get a sense for how much typical buyers pay for these things so I can give him a quote for eBay listings for individual computers, lots of 10, and lots of 20. We perform full low level formats to the harddrives in anything coming out of our office, so data security shouldn't be an issue here.

The company I work for had a big selloff like this recently, and sold the pc's to employees at 40-45 dollars each. some of those might go for 55 each. IT had a heck of a time getting them all ready for the sale, but came with OS installed monitor/keyboard/mouse.
