I remember seeing an article about this on Engadget or something. Very very cool stuff, but honestly gesture typing is so much faster than button pressing that I would actually not use this. It will be great for mobile gaming though.

...I don't get it? Is it just a fancy-looking touchscreen keyboard?

Oh shizzle, gotta keep watching...there are actually divots forming in the screen? That is damned neat. However, QUIT TRYING TO TAKE AWAY MY BUTTONS.

I give it maybe one more year, and no one's going to bother making slider smartphones anymore. Or clamshell or any other format they could come up with to hide a keyboard. And that makes me sad. Even the very cool tactile screen tech is just not a proper substitute for little clicky buttons. And said little clicky buttons are so cheap- just a simple PCB and rubber/plastic cover. No actual switches required.

Beyond simply not liking touchscreen keyboards, I literally can't work them on anything other than a fullsize tablet (iPad size). I have big fingers with calloused tips...hell, I can barely use the dialpad without making an error.

The war on buttons ended a long time ago.

Microfluidics has been around for some time now, but this is the first time I've seen it utilized in consumer electronics... awesome!!!

I do remember reading about pop-up keyboards a while ago. I think I would like this best on a tablet since I use swype on my phone.

Wow I've just started a thread about upcoming interfaces and then saw this. Very interesting indeed.

This could be a way to add tactile support for blind people on touch screen devices apart from voice commands...

Well, sounds silly...

the biggest problem i remember them having in development was durability... this is probably not even in the same generation as gorilla glass. i wouldnt be surprised if it has the scratch prone and crack easy characteristics of old winmo 5 phones and such...

How does this "improve" over current technology...? It's very interesting, but doesn't strike me as being more practical... Unless you're visually impaired.

Improvement can only be a result of incorporation. The development of microfluidic control systems within touch-interface surfaces is bound to open up an entire new level of creative and innovative interface design.

C'mon, you guys don't see the most obvious use. Porn that you can feel. Breasts, nipples and nether region anatomy. Hell make it interactive. Think about it!!!!
