I know this is a dumb question.
Don't get me wrong, I love the fan and its air flow..
but my 92mm Vantec Tornado sounds like a vacuum cleaner.. Even though I maybe able to take the noise of 55 dBA, my parents would not.

Any if all, possible to reduce its sound by half?
otherwise I might have to walk back to the shop and BS that it doesnt fit my case or something..

Its a real waste to exchange it for something less.. sigh.. assuming allowed.
Also, maybe some kind of sofware would allow me to change its speed? say like speed fan ?

it comes with a molex connector and a 3 pin connector for speed detection

Use a rheostat/fanbus/Zalman fanmate/fan controller.

Or if it's a 4-pin molex connector you can switch the 5V and 12V pins to get 5V effective

hmm option number two requires rewiring..

option no.1 to install a rheostat? If they sell it at the PC shops... I would be glad to purchase one

Fan controller goes right into the 5.25" bays. Nothing else needed, and their availble everywhere.

That fan is wicked bad isn't it? AND LOUD!!! OMG , I'm waiting on my xp90 so I can use it on my p4......
I'm hoping to be able to run it full blast all the time to keep the chip cool.....
If my wife can take the noise that is.....my buddy has three of those in his case....and it sounds like a friggin hair dryer gone crazy!!!

Or run down to Radio Shack and get a 1 ohm, ceramic resistor and put it inline with the positive lead.

as ariafrost said, a controller such as the Zalman fanmate will allow you to adjust, fanmate shouldn't cost you more than $5 or so.

Anything over 40cfm -- 50cfm is over kill and will not cool your CPU any better...
Anything ovr CPU thee is diminishing returns....

Some people think or actually belive that a fan that displaces say 90cfm is actually better than a fan that displaces 40cfm - 50cfm...not true at all...

Unless you are just moving the air through the case and NOT cooling your CPU!!

Yes , that's what I thought , the extra CFM blowing on my CPU heatsink wouldn't matter much , if I wasn't moving the air in my case as well , I've got Two intake fans on the lower side of the case( 2 x 50mm.) One intake in the front (120 mm.) and an exhaust (50mm.) in the back. The whole top of the case has holes along it , and the back has a crapload of vents in it , and the power supply vents outside...With all of the intake fans , the positive pressure on the inside of the case keeps the air flowing out all the time....hopefully removing heat with it....
I wonder if I'd replace that front 120mm with a 92mm tornado , and have it as an intake....I bet that would rock too....

gosh the fan controller is not cheap at all.
I don't think its worth purchasing it. After all, I only need to control one fan. Checked the price out and it cost about RM 180.00
thats approx. US$ 48.00

$3.00 U.S. solution.
