As far as I can tell that's part of the nvidia press slide, and their performance slides are based on quiet mode...

It does seem that the GTX780 and Geforce Titan, are much quieter.

I wonder if Nvidia have just re-used the same heatsink for the GTX780TI??

Its 5 decibels noisier than then previous two cards.

I wonder if the GTX780 and Geforce Titan would be quieter under "normal" mode when compared to a GTX780TI??

For reference coolers they are decent, but the GTX780TI will consume more power than the earlier cards, and the aftermarket pre-overclocked GTX780 cards come with better coolers.

Is it "lets re-use our toolbox" season at AMD and Nvidia ATM?? Jeez, better to wait a month or two for AIBs to come out with better coolers for these TDP boosted cards, unless of course you are supplying your own cooling.

Yes, that is true it appears. With more heat and more power, the fans will have to spin harder. So, this card is going to be louder than the others, but it does seem to be not as insufferable as the 290X.

Well, upon closer inspection, the 780 Ti cooler has black heatsink fins, but beyond that, I don't see anything different hardware-wise.

I think the 780 reference coolers are decent, but apparently people like their industrial design, so it makes sense for nVidia to slap on the same cooler, albeit with some new colors.

I guess it's the "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" mentality.

Does the R9 290X fan ramp up to 100% normally in Uber mode?? All I see is the guy manually ramping the fan upto 100% in the video.

No, it's sits at 55%. So it's not too bad. I just think the video is hilarious when he cranks it up to 100% -- That's as loud as my wife's hair dryer.

It probably could function as one, too.

High temperature air? Check.
High velocity air? Check.

It's ready to roll.

Holy crap. Buy one of those and she could dry her hair while you play Crysis 3

Gentler noise in 3, 2, 1...

Lol this... If it ends up being as loud as the 290X, forum will be flooded by "But Nvidia's fan has a silky smooth sound" or some bs like that

Those 290X 100% fan videos are still hilarious though, it really does sound like the card is about to take flight
Amd should take advantage of it and make an Uber 1337 version that always runs at 100% fan with higher clocks, call it Jet Edition

Why all the shock and horror, haven't any of you guys heard the AMD blowers at 100% before? Its the same on the 5800 series.. as is the 6900 series... and the 7900 series. News worthy?

AMD blowers are definitely loud, but until this card, they didn't usually have to run very high to keep temps in check.

No, didn't own them, but I remember owning some of NV's FX series dust busters . The were ridiculous.

This. Hawaii is AMD's largest chip to date. Everything prior has been smaller, more power efficient, and with the same cooler more-or-less, they've been cooler as well. So it makes sense that with a similar cooler, you will need a higher fan speed to dissipate heat faster, which ultimately results in more noise.

Noise test for 780 Ti

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHzGD8iTR00#t=59

Doesn't list % as the fan increases in RPM's however. Still louder than I would like compared to MSI's Gaming Series...but nonetheless in my case I could probably live with it alright.

Per videocardz.com:

Wow, overclocked that sucker is going to be noisy - I'd need to switch to headphones. Guess NV will be needing some good AIB solutions (though, you probably want a blower if you're doing SLI). Oh and 1/3 FP, that's a curious surprise!

So what are you thinking price wise, $649.99 or $699.99 for the 780ti? Are you going to be going SLI with them? I probably won't get one because last week I found out I am going to be a Dad.

Congrats!!! :thumbsup::thumbsup: :wub:

1274mhz overclock on air on a 2880 CUDA core beast is very impressive. Looks like NV did another revision of GK110.

Overclocked, this should beat GTX690 easy. $599 price would have been killer and taken R9 290X down to $499. I suppose NV doesn't have to since they know they'll sell all of them for people who just want the bragging rights for the fastest gaming GPU. Can't help but think that $700 is way too much though in light of 20nm GPUs launching within 12 months I presume and R9 290s in XF beating this thing handily. Also the pricing gap between cards like MSI Lightning and Galaxy HOF seems too much for what is likely just a 15% difference in performance.

I thought they supposedly raised the core a lot, it doesn't appear to be much higher?

For example, stuff-uk.net is already has MSI’s GTX-780TI-3GD5 in stock for £582. Zotac’s reference card is listed in several DACH shops with prices starting at €677 – but it’s not available just yet. The card was announced a few weeks back and there’s nothing new to report on the spec front. It is based on a GK110-425-B1 GPU, clocked at 875MHz (Boost 928MHz), with 3GB or GDDR5 on a 384-bit memory bus. The memory clock is 1750MHz.
It’s got 2880 cores, 240 texture units and 48 ROPs, up from 2304/192/48 on the original GTX 780. In terms of performance, it churns out 5040GFLOPS (Single), 210GFLOPS (Double). The “old” GTX 780 could manage 3977GFLOPS (Single), 165GFLOPS (Double). For a bit of perspective, here are the Titan numbers: 4500GFLOPS (Single), 1311GFLOPS (Double, 732MHz).
