Ask them if they worship grass. Any decent home owner wants a nice looking yard, and any decent home owner who's a parent should want a nice yard for their kid and others to play on.

Reason #4752 why I would rather just not have neighbors. Just so much easier...

They're assholes. Why would you want to hang out with assholes? They did you a favor, find some decent neighbors to hang out with.

Sounds like you did everything right. It's a good thing for your daughter the neighbors don't want her around...they sound like d-bags.

Yea seriously. Parents == if it's soft and green for the kids, I don't give a shit!

Don't see any problems with what you did. Your neighbors seem uptight. Is there any cultural/racial difference? Reason I ask, is, I kinda have the feeling that might be the reason for their attitude towards you. Sad to say. If not then I don't know.

Also kudos/props for taking your kids over to apologize.

According to one side of the story. Most of which is second hand via a small child.

What information seems to be missing that would change the main facts of the story?

Clearly the neighbors are religious nuts. Not sure if the OP is intentionally leaving that out or not

Oh geeze...

This stuff happens on a daily basis in our neighborhood. It goes away the next day. Don't worry.

Do a burnout in his yard in the middle of the night.
OR put excessive amounts of fertilizer in his yard so it burns a message.

Then build the fence.

When we spoke to the wife those were the exact incidents she mentioned. Essentially her stance was since your daughter has not followed our rules she is no longer welcome here.

Seems a bit harsh in my opinion. Their daughter would have to do quite a bit for me to tell her she could never come over -- especially to simply yell such at the little girl and then never go over to talk to her parents about it. I'm betting had we not gone over to apologize, they would not have come to talk to us about the situation.

I wouldn't trust neighbors like that. Maybe you should consider upgrading your home security.

No, we're both white. But....

This. There is a religious difference between us. My wife and I don't belong to any religion and would loosely consider ourselves agnostic atheists. However, we don't discuss religion with any of our neighbors. It's possible our children have told them. Based on our past conversations with the wife, it's clear they're Catholics since we see them go to church on Saturdays and she has said it's up to god how many children they have.

meh, sounds like you did what you could. i dont like the neighbor's kids in my house, but thats just because its very small and if the kids want to play and be noisy they can do it outside so that part doesnt seem 'that' odd to me. (although, i wouldnt say they can 'never' be in the house. i just encourage them all to play outside) as for the grass and gum... wow, idk what to say about that. they do seem a bit anti-social and control-freakish. i find trash and crap in my yard from the kids all the time. i tell them to clean it up. big deal.

I think you handled it right. Your neighbors sound like jerks but at the end of the day (and as you pointed out), it is their yard and they have the right to do that. I just wonder why they acted so extreme since no apparent damage was done.

I don't trust your neighbors. I would document any issues or incidents with them from here on out and don't be afraid to call the cops if they give you any trouble no matter how light it is. It always looks better for the first person to call the cops and second it will show your loser neighbor you will not tolerate his actions.

I hope his wife and kids are not being abused.

shrug, there house there rules. If kids comeing over can't fallow my rules they are not welcome at my house.

But to kick them out over spitting gum on the yard and IF its the first time they that the kids broke there rules seems weird.

Sorry to not join the crowd, but it IS one side of the story. Not saying you're a liar, but the simple fact is that it's irresponsible to pass judgement without hearing both sides of an argument. We don't know you from the man in the moon, the parents may have been looking for reasons to dissociate themselves from you because of other activities. Maybe your kids are completely out of control little hell raisers, but you don't see it as a problem because you're the one letting it go on. I have a coworker like this, nice guy, seemingly normal, his kids are TERRIBLE. I'm sure he wonders why other parents don't want his kids around theirs, either.

Or there is the religious thing, in all possibility they are extreme Mormons/Lutherans/Baptists/Snake Church folks and don't want their kids mixing with the unsaved.

Based on our past conversations with the wife, it's clear they're Catholics since we see them go to church on Saturdays and she has said it's up to god how many children they have.

Jews go to "church" (temple) on Saturdays. Catholics go to church on Sunday mornings just like everyone else, unless it's a Saturday evening mass for convenience.

If the OP's kids are bad then the neighbors should have said the truth instead of making up a laughable reason for permenant banning from a yard. How much of the yard is public anyway, the first 7 feet? If they cannot tell the truth, which i realize lots of people cannot do then they have to live with the OP's "out of control" kids.

We heard from the OP who talked to the neighbor so unless the OP is a liar we know 1.5 sides to the story.
