Ventrilo server on GoDaddy hosting?

I've done some searching, but I can't seem to find anything about whether or not it's possible for me to host a Vent server on my GoDaddy hosting. I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but since it's for my LotRO kin, it seemed like the closest match. I appreciate any and all advice.

A quick once over of the server features seems to indicate that it might be possible but they really don't say anything about shell access on the regular hosting plans. Virtual servers you definitely could do it but I'm not sure you could do it for the servers where they seem to be mainly targeted at webhosting. One thing to keep in mind is that with the server software you can download from the Ventrilo site you are limited to 8 people on the server. If this is enough for you that's great however if you need more people to be able to use the server then you MUST go through a Ventrilo hosting provider in order to get it as they do not make the server software that supports more users publically available. You may just want to consider Ventrillo hosting if that's all he really wants and needs. I've seen hosting for 60 users for $13 more or less.

Im not very familiar with Vent but I would probably say no. GoDaddy offers Web hosting and a vent server is not a web page. There are companies that let you host game\application servers and I suspect they are more likely going to allow you to do this.

no, unless you are doing some sort of hosting from a box you own...then you could, possibly, set it up to work that way.

I currently have my vent server hosted by dark communications... its not bad, decent pricing and service. btw Vent > Teamspeak

ah alright, so if I want more than 8 users on at a time, I am forced to use a Ventrilo provider. Does Ventrilo have a deal with these providers or do they just buy a commercial version of Vent and provide hosting for people?
