VGA Problem

Hey all, I recently acquired a Sapphire HD 5870 and am running into some graphical issues in Bad Company 2. Here are the settings:

Resolution: 1920x1080, 60hz
Settings: All High
AA: 4x
AF: 4x
HBAO: Off

I only get about 30 FPS in game though, while the game menu pumps out a constant 60 (with Vsync) The wierd thing is that even if I change all settings to low, turn off AA/AF/HBAO, and play at 1024x760, 60hz, my FPS remains at 25-35.

I heard that there were problems with ATI cards and BFBC2, but I used to play this game with a 5770 and had no problems. A GTX 460 runs twice as fast as the level of performance I'm getting now, and I just don't know what to do. I have the latest Catalyst driver set (10.12) and have manually deleted my user settings multiple times to flush out VGA presets.

What are the full specs of your system?

I get about 30-50FPS on Medium, 1680x1050 with a 9800GT and an E7200.

Core i7-860
2GB DDR3 RAM
HD 5870
450w SFX PSU

My second DIMM of ram won't fit with the installed HSF

Fallout New Vegas runs at 50-60FPS on max settings...

ORdinarily, turning down graphical settings, and maintaining the same frame rate, would indicate a problem with being CPU-limited. But with your CPU, you really shouldn't be. So something else is going on here.

Scanned for malware lately?

I wonder about the only 2GB of RAM too, that seems way to low to game on these days.

I'm positive that there's no malware, and I hear your point about the RAM but that doesn't explain why Fallout runs fluidly.

Mafia II at 1400x900 is giving me a nice 60fps as well.

Could also be a PSU problem, but if you no issues running other games then I find this improbable, but not impossible. Battlefield is more system heavy than the Fallout games from experience. It could be that 2GB of RAM is limiting it also.

I've just discovered that my CPU is hitting almost 100C during games. I'm going to have to check the HSF contact.

Yea silly me, I had the CPU fan speed set to 30% in the BIOS. Turning it back to auto is giving me 60fps. Woot!
