I think the mix up was due to the fact that "one million" in Mandarin is actually written as "100 ten-thousand."

The number system used to mess me up all the time when I moved back to Taiwan for a while.

One Million seems more realistic, and it's not a surprise if that is the case. $100M seemed far too generous. Can you, however, quote the .TW page as I can't read it and the english pages do not have the news release.

People must also realize that VIA is part of the Formosa Plastics company., one of the world's largest companies. $100 million is very generous and should not bankrupt VIA.

Come on, 1M is 1/4 of CISCO's contribution and yet, VIA is much much less than 1/4 of CISCO in size and capitalization. 1M is really a lot from a chipset company. And, besides, it is the only piece of large donation from a foreign company up 'till now. And, this will surely plant a seed that makes Intel, Nvidia, ATI, Creative...... to come up with something similar (hopefully).

I honestly didn't believe they could do $100 million, and was expecting a correction to $100 thousand. If the $1 million figure later cited is true, that's an incredibly generous sum. All these companies making such generous donations makes me proud of the compassion of these large companies. Thanks, guys.

The initial post should be changed to reflect that they are only (I don't mean that condescendingly) donating $1 million. Also, I still believe that this thread should not be locked at the top. That changes the significance of this thread entirely.
