Video Cable Accesories (Wall mount)

So I have no clue where else to post besides here...I am wanting to install a projector at work and mount it on the ceiling. I'd really like to be able to run cable through the ceiling to the wall and then mount a junction box (if that's the right term) in the wall and have spots in it to plug in a monitor cable, a composite video cable, and S-video cable. I have been unsuccessful in trying to locate these plugs (sockets?) to do this...any help on where to locate this and cheap cable would be much appreciated. Thank you!!!

Are you looking for something like this but with a monitor connection too?

If you're not too worried about it looking crappy, you could just get some extender cables and let them dangle....

EDIT:

You could put M-F cables that would in effect be like extensions to the projector:
Monitor cables

For Composite and s-video you could run regular M-M lines and then put extension adapters on the ends to connect to other M-M cables coming from wherever you put the devices...

Bad idea, quality wise. Every break in the cable will degrade the signal.

That's true. If you can just get some really long runs it would be better.

You can find most parts (Leviton or RCA) at Home Depot and local electronic stores. You don't need a box for low voltage device (definately need box if you want power to the monitor), however a box would make your mounting plate more secure. A male/female DB15 monitor extension cord is the best way to go (you can make one or have it made for a low fee at local electronic shops), and try to find one that you can detach the shells to make mounting on the plate easier.

I have had 100 feet DB15 video extension cable work perfectly well, however it was made from very heavy gauge cable and heavy shielding.

Best bet is hitting the specialty electronic shops and inquire about your project.

That's true. If you can just get some really long runs it would be better.

True, however having cables hanging from the ceiling/wall sucks. One extra break isn?t that bad if you have strong signal from your devices, and tight fit mounting reduces the problem.

So the goal is to have the cables run to a box on the wall... and then this would be better because if you brought something in, you'd just get a short cable and run it from your device to the box.

To me it seems like it would just be easier to have longer cables run to some literal "box" on the wall where you could coil them up. From there, you could just take out the coil you needed and run it to your laptop or whatever. That way you're never caught without the shorter cable in case some moron takes it with them, you have a better quality signal, and it's going to be a lot cheaper, which is one of the goals here.

And I think your final suggestion is what I will do...I wanted them mounted on the wall just so there were no cables laying around to be tripped on or pulled...this is going in a youth room of a church...but it does seem easiest to me to just run some 50' cables to the projector and then have them hanging out of the wall (and out of the way) to plug everything in to.

Extron has the item you need. I'd suggest a Chief mount for the projector, they're fairly priced and work great.

FWIW, while the wall plates from Extron are fantastic, I am not an Extron authorized dealer, so was unable to purchase one for my self....I did find something similar and functional at RAM Electronics that was fairly inexpensive and helpful.
