I have a Radeon 9000 VIVO video card. I am wondering what is a good, cheap sound card to use to capture the video and audio out of a satelite receiver. I have an older VIVO and Sound Blaster Live 5.1 and I couldnt for the life of me get the audio to work when I was capturing the video. Also can anyone reccomend software to do this. I would like to ultimatly burn the video captured to DVD so I just need the format I capture to be AVI, I can do the rest from there. Any reccomendations would be great. Thanks

I don't know why the audio wouldn't work. It should, I wouldn't think you'd need a new sound card. It seems like you already got everything you need. I always used the ATi included software for video capture. You'd have to record as mpg, then burn as a video-cd so it can play on DVD players, unless you're saying you got a DVD burner.

well see what I was doing was with an old Radeon VIVO and a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 and the sound wouldnt work. The video would capture, but no sound. I tried some things but nothing worked. But now I am putting together another system with a VIVO 9000, and the board has onboard sound that I dont necassarily want to use. But thats what I thought, the sound card I did try with should have worked. I will try with the onboard sound once I get it all together. And yes I do have a DVD Burner that I want to use. What sound card do you use? Id like to get some input on them for this aspect since Im most likely going to buy one anyway.

I used a Radeon VIVO and SB Live! 5.1 many times to capture audio/video. Did you have your Satellite connected to the soundcard? The VIVO cards only capture the video, the soundcard captures the audio with the VIVO cards. You need to connect the RCA (composite) audio out of the Satellite reciever to the Line-in of your soundcard and you should be set. Make sure your inputs aren't being muted during capture (very common)

I use onboard sound also. Just have to make a quick switch in the volume control so that the surround output becomes line in.

But listen to rbV5, he is the capturing man.

I would check the Line-In and Mic-In port and make sure you are capturing audio from the right place.
