Video Card Advise

I am in the market for a new video card becuase my 64mb Nvidia is just not cutting it anymore. The thing is that my motherboard only supports up to AGP 4x. Could you guys please give me some advise regarding solid video card that has the capability of doubling as AGP4x/8x. Thanks a lot for the assistance

Just about every mainstream vid card supports AGP 4x/8x. Depends on how much money you have.

so, the cards will usually say 4x/8x on the packaging? Also, what range of core speeds/effective speeds should I look for. I am not familiar with the speeds of video cards.

is it really worth looking into a 256mb? I would prefer the 256 over the 128.

I would to, but 256 may be above your budget, and it's not THAT much of a difference. As long as you have a good system, of course.

the thing is since u have a 4x i dont think u will get the full power of the video card. so ur only using about half. sorry if i am wrong but i was just thinking about it maybe we havent used up to 8x w/e i know that 8x is more than enough and pci-e is overkill unless SLI.

If a card is 256mb ddr, does that mean that it is automatically better than its 128mg counterpart? Are there 128mb cards that are better from 256mb cards... and if there are, what makes these cards better?

8X cards are downward compatible from what I know and the difference between 4x and 8x is very small.
Also, to get a 256 MB card in that price range would be about $50-$100 more for a very minimal performance increase. It's not worth it unless you're getting a high end card.
