Video card is choppy?

Hello I am having toubles with my new video card. I installed in and i was going to play some games and they were way choppy, I couldn't really even play them and the resolution was set to 1024x780 so it wasnt even that high. The card i have is a radeon 9100 128 DDR pci version. I have the newest driver for it too. Here is my system specs.

Win xp pro
1 gig ddr ram
asus a7n8x deluxe
amd xp 2600

Any advice of things to check?

What game are you trying to play?

The 9100 is fussy with drivers, i have the card myself and i had to re-install the drivers for it

edit: Just noticed you have a PCI version (This exists? ) the problem could lie there..

Might try to set the Sliders in the 3D tab of the advanced display properties to "performance" for both Direct3D and OpenGL for starters. You really should be using an AGP card in that system buddy

I didnt even know there was a PCI version of the 9100

Are pci video cards really that bad? The games that I have tried to play were halo, gta vice city and prince of persia.

Yes they are, that is why AGP was born

AGP = Accelerated Graphics Port.

Accelerated is the key word

Why do they make pci cards so good with 128 ddr if they suck so bad? The specs are the same for the pci and agp versions.

I changed the settings to higher performance and it works better, but now the problem is when i am playing halo the screen goes blank and the computer restarts. What could cause that?

If PCI is your only choice(no AGP slot), the 9100 is your best choice. You had alot better choices for your rig....however, you got what you got. Do you have the latest drivers for your card?

yeah I got the newest drivers from the ati website. What should I do with the settings on the card?

and after that you'll have to lower the settings ingame to get better performance.

Halo kicks back to the desktop all the time with my 9500 pro. The drivers simply suck. My GF3 Ti200 plays games smoother than my ATI piece of sh!t.
