I know it is a wall of text but this is a lasting problem and I wanted to include all the information.
Mobo: asus m2n32-sli deluxe
CPU: AMD athlon 64 X2 6000+
PSU: Rx-850AE
RAM: 6gb 800mhz ddr2
GPU: Gtx 460
I got the gtx 460 a little over a year ago. It ran fine for about 4 months (primarily used for playing SCII). Then my comp starts to freeze up (both while playing games and simple browsing), monitors loses single, and music will loop but occasionally continue forward. Sometimes my computer would start but nothing would happen. My Video card was under warranty so I sent it in and bought a Gtx 9600 while I waited. No issues occurred while using the 9600. I get the 460 back put it in and immediately same thing occurs. I was running a 500w power supply so I thought that may be the issue. I recently got the new PSU which should run the 460 just fine. Plugged in the gtx 460 and had minor little issues (random disconnect) but it played Portal 2 well for 2 days. Now after a random time playing my computer will freeze. My monitor no longer losses the single as it did before. Not sure if I am having the same boot problems yet.
Things I have tried;
1. Cleared all drivers and downloaded most recent ones
2. It is not over heating. I have speed fan and msi afterburner running while crash happens and GPU at 36C.
3. Cleared case of dust
4. Checked connections
And No I do not have another system to check it in ;/
