Hello all..
I just recently had to sell my Sapphire 6950 2GB video card (I didnt want to, believe me!) and in the mean time, until I can manage my father's cancer better financially, I had to go back to my old video card setup..
I have two Sapphire 4650's 512mb..
On my current system, I have a 890 chipset with the on board 4290. I tried that for minimal gaming and it's just not a solution to any time of gaming except maybe the old telnet "mud" games... lol
So, I figured I can afford my old man's cancer meds if I sold the last 6950 (I use to have 2 in xfire).. I got the asking price for the card which indeed did help me pay for the meds..
So I figured, I use to game almost a year ago on the 4650 and it was decent, but nothing to brag about..
I installed one of them in the 16x slot, and proceed to boot... and I get a blank display.
I shut it off, and did a CMOS reset.. I turned the system back on and I got something similar to this picture:
(multcolored - garbled text during windows boot)
Okay, I figured... I popped in the spare I had... Well the spare shows the bios splash screen perfect, and shows the Win7 booting image flawlessly, then once it finishes booting, I either get a BSOD with a "Stop Error" and it showing the AMD driver stopped responding..
Or sometimes I get multicolored patches on the monitor. I uninstalled all drivers related to ATI / AMD and did a driver sweep.. I downloaded CCC 10.2 and a couple of older versions as well.. and still the same thing..
I mostly get the BSOD, and sometimes the driver would "restart", making the display flash a couple times (as if changing the resolution) and sometimes I would get a crystal clear desktop, then it would either eventually BSOD or get the multicolored patches,,
I installed the cards in my older 785g chipset and I get the same thing..
The cards were in separate storage places in the house, so what are the odds of both cards being shot? Would I have any luck resurrecting them?
Thanks for all the advice and information! I really appreciate it!
