Video card upgrade advice....

Currently looking to upgrade my rig with a newer vid card. I'm running;

AMD fx 6300
ASRock 990FX Extreme9
8 gb ram
Antec EA 650
Win7 pro

Currently running an xfx 5770. Not a hardcore gamer but I do game. Budget would be somewhere in the $100-150 range but flexible if the right deal comes along.

I play alot of games casually. BF, CoD, Mechs & Mercs, various browser based games. Like i said I'm not a hardcore gamer but I do play. Don't need to be on the razors edge but need an upgrade solution.

Both previous suggestions are within my means...

yeah the R9 280 is a very good GPU. perfect if you are looking at a card which will last a long time. the MSI card is excellent.

This R9 270 (HD 7870) is close to your budget (just $10 more) and within it if you figure in the MIR. If you can't do that R7 265 (HD 7850) is definitely within it:

Wait until GTX960/960Ti drops Jan 22nd. It could be a superior choice OR it could force additional price drops on 270X/280/280X cards. You have little to lose waiting 10 more days.

To answer the question to the OP, you can go for the AMD r7 265 which is about $140 right now or you can go for an AMD R9 270 which can often be found for $150.

More good advice guys, thank you!! Waiting a week or two seems like the best plan for now, I'm in no hurry. An AMD price drop would be nice once the gtx960 lands. We shall see...

OP has some decent choices in his price range - in rough order of price R7 260X, GTX 750, GTX 750 Ti, R7 265, R9 270, and some places have the discontinued 7870 available (which is an R9 270).

On the higher end R9 270 - that really only hits the range with a rebate and if you ignore sales tax.

Given he has that big 650W PSU, the 7870 @ Newegg for $104 seems to currently be the best deal of the bunch.
