This is pretty lengthy, so thanks in advance if you manage to read through it all.
I use netmeeting to talk with my parents who live in Europe (I'm in the States). Up until two months ago, it all worked fine. We'd have video, sound, could send messages, files, everything. My dad eventually got a little home network set up behind a router, and while it prevented me from calling him (since Netmeeting doesn't support NAT, and I couldn't reach his internal PCs behind his firewall), if he called me everything was fine, and everything worked.
Then I got a new computer, and a wireless router, and since then everything's gone to crap. The computer runs Win2k.
First off, we couldn't call each other. I finally solved this by basically forwarding every single port to my PC's IP address. At that point, my dad could call me, and we'd actually get a connection established, but there was no video. Everything else seemed to work, except the video.
I figured it was the router's firewall that was causing the issue, so I turned it off. Still no video.
I tried it through port triggering. Still no video. Finally, disgusted, I put my computer in the DMZ. No video.
Okay...
- I circumvented the router, and just plugged my computer straight into my cable modem (emulating the setup that I used to have). No video.
Now, I have an nForce 4 motherboard, and I know it comes with an integrated firewall. However, does this firewall work on everything you do with this board that uses TCP/IP, or is it only active on data that comes in over the nVidia network controller?
- Just to be sure, I checked and made sure the firewall was turned off. No video. I uninstalled the controller software for the firewall, but no video. I checked the BIOS, and cannot find any option to turn the firewall off.
Still convinced that it was my new computer somehow, I tried it on my wife's laptop (XP, SP1). No video.
We've tried another conferencing tool, but it still wouldn't work.
Now, normally I would be inclined to say that the issue lies on my parents' side (not that that helps me much, since I'd still have to fix it), and focus on their end, but they haven't changed anything since when it still worked. The only thing that changed was MY side of the equation, as the problems happened as soon as I got my new system.
Can anyone offer any clues what might be causing this? I think I've already pretty much eliminated everything on my end?
