Given that they're higher volume and lower cost (the CDs are MUCH cheaper to make than carts) I think they're fair. But if they start pushing in game advertizing those bastards better just start handing the games out (which I know they're not going to)

hell, i think $50 is too much sometimes. $40 is about right for me

no one wants to pay that much.
but some games are arguably worth it, certainly worth more than other priced similarly.
if ff7 was $100 when it came out, i would have still bought it sunk the over 100 hours i did into it and never regretted spending it.
i only paid $50 like everyone else...what a value that was!

i think there are games to me worth far more than $50.But i would have to say the vast majority of games i wouldnt pay over $35 for. Im either really interested in it and will pay whatever price for the game or im really not all that interested in the title to begin with.

Ive had consoles since coleco, and have played more titles than i care to remember.
Im a gamer, but i probably only beat and really play 5 to 7 games a year.

take into account inflation, those 50+ dollar nes games were even more.
and some with additional memory or processing chips in the cart cost even more.
some site out there probably has a thing on the inflation

course game dev budgets are many times larger these days.

yeah, i'm tired of seeing the Axe billboards and stuff in R6: Vegas. Every little sign has an Axe ad on it. At one point, when you leave the area by the chopper, you pass like 4 huge Axe billboards in a row. Its disgusting and the game still cost $50.

movie in a theater = ~10 bucks for 2 hours. if a game doesn't provide me at least 10 hours of entertainment, then i'm pissed.

With a lot of these games now having a huge multiplayer portion to accompany the single player portion, I will gladly continue to pay $50 - $60 for games that I think are worth it at launch.

Granted I haven't bought many games at all recently, but that's because as some have said, there is a real lack of quality games out there. I paid $60 for Gears of War in early November and that game gets played almost daily.

When the 360 came out, I had 10 games in about 5 months of launch. Then I realized how little I played most of them and I sold 7 of them. Since then I haven't bought many games at all. Hell I only own 5 Xbox360 games now.

EDIT: you also have to realize that these games aren't made of teams of 4 or 5 people like they used to be. They are made of teams of over 50 sometimes. Hell I think over 100 people are working on Halo 3. If anything we should be thankful that the prices of quality titles are still around $50.

I've decided to wait till a game hits the $30 mark till I get it unless I know it will be a really good game. I don't really care if I'm just starting to play it 2 years later, I'm just a casual gamer these days anyway.

it amazes me that we haven't been gouged more on video game prices. i remember paying $72 for Secret of Mana back in the day. i guess competition really does drive down prices.

I don't buy consoles so I don't have to worry about those prices.

I never pay more than $10.00 for a video game. Usually Wally-World and Target have PC games for $10.00 or less. I just purchased Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault and am playing through it. It was $9.99.

I wouldn't waste the hard drive space for most games today, let alone pay $60 - $70 for them.

$40 is about my limit these days and it has to be something I just can't wait to play. Even new releases get promo pricing at $40 the first week or two that they're out on the PC. Looking foward to picking up Supreme Commander.

There have been a few games that to me were fully worth their $40-$50 price tag. Half-Life I would have paid $100 for, that game was so awesome. WarCraft 3, StarCraft, Battlefield 1942, and Call of Duty were also well worth their prices. I buy most of my games now off of eBay or FS/T for $20 or so. Of course... I wouldn't mind paying $50 again for a good solid game that was actually thoroughly tested and only needed at most 2 updates to become bug free.

I paid $70 for Final Fantasy 3, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG and Legend of Zelda on SNES when they were released. Cartridge games were just more expensive to produce.

Now a days, i'll pay $50 for console games, $60 for PC games.

I can't believe people are complaining. Old school Nintendo games were $50 a pop over 20 years ago. They are still only $50 a pop, even though games costs tens of millions to make now, compared to $100,000 back in the day. Further....factoring in inflation, a game that cost $50 20 years ago, should cost $93 today and that's not even stating the fact mentioned above, that they cost much much much more to develop.

That's the one I remember being the most expensive. I still remember looking at it in Toys'R'Us when I was younger and how it was nearly double the price of all the other games.

The prices don't bother me much, although when you look at a game that's released for multiple consoles (i.e. XBOX 360 and PS2) like Samurai Warriors 2... you know the game is probably not going to gain much being on the 'better console'... yet you pay a premium for it anyway (SW2 was $50 for X360 and $40 for PS2). Although, I don't care much and I still buy collector's editions of just about any game that has one .

Dark Messiah: Good concept, but too linear and with no replay value. The branching storylines aren't really that great, or branching.
Oblivion: Heck of a lot of replay value, but it dies if you get really far and then lose your savegames, like from a system format
FEAR, Far Cry, COD2: really meh IMO

:Q

Never speak "meh" about COD!

Way too expensive considering the quality has dropped over the last few years.

And I dont know why you payed so much for NES titles. The most I ever payed (either with allowance or lawn money) was 30 bucks.
With the SNES the average was closer to 40, Final Fantasy 2 being the exception, (but I bought that one used years later for cheap).

I have also found that the cheaper Windows games tend to be better overall, with Morrowind being the only exception there.
If a PC game costs 50 bucks I'm probably gonna hate it. It means the company is way too concerned with making money and left customer satisfaction behind.
Ever since 1993, most of my favorites were under 40 dollars. Still holds true.

sounds like nostalgia talking big time. things that wowed you as a child probably won't wow you as an adult. move on, it doesn't mean the quality has dropped.

I wouldnt know, I dont rub my nose in it every time I make one.
Nor do I rub another persons nose it in.

Why dont you crawl back to the whore of a mother who raised you poorly and try to learn some manners before you grow old and die alone.
Its painfully obvious you have nothing useful to say here and certainly cant spend your time any better, like making money for yourself.

BS!!! Remember when ESPN NFL 2K5 was released at $19.99?
It was far superior to the Madden.
EA got scared sh1tless and went out to get exclusive contracts with the NFL.

If your SNES games costed you $40 on average, and $30 for your NES games, you must have been buying them months after they were released and were in the bargain bin, or you live in your fantasy world.

LOL @ your reply though
