Everything has its highs and lows, pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages, etc.

In order to convince someone (the potential customer) to buy a product (such as a video game system: Xbox), one must be able to convince that someone to buy it.

In order to persuade the someone to buy it (Xbox), one must know the pros and cons of the product. Knowing the cons will help prepare the "salesman" to answer any questions that the someone (the "customer" ) will likely ask.

The customer may be a little unsure of themselves when it comes to buying the product (Xbox), because they don't know much about video games, don't know which console they should buy, etc. I am doing this for DECA (marketing), if you're curious

Here are the pros and cons that I thought of:

PROS:

- the customer's child(ren) will spend more time at home, playing the Xbox of course

- video games are proven to enhance a person's visual skills

- video games have a variety of age ratings (i.e E for "everyone," T for "teen," & M for "Mature")

- Xbox's "Platinum Hits," their bestselling Xbox games, are only $20 each, making video games more affordable

- Xbox plays the Xbox-exclusive "Halo: Combat Evolved" and will release "Halo 2" in Spring of 2004.

- the customer's child(ren) will enjoy the multiplayer gaming with his or her friends

-Xbox has a DVD player cabability that can play any DVD movies

- Xbox LIVE enable players to compete with other Xbox players around the world with voice interaction with more challanging gameplay

-Xbox Competes with the world's number one selling console system.
- Xbox has a processor (the CPU, or "brain") that is 2 and 1/2 times faster than PS2
- Xbox has higher video performance and smoother graphics than the PS2
- Xbox has a built in memory card

CONS:

- Xbox system is expensive (about $180, plus another $30 for a DVD playback kit, totaling over $200)

- Xbox doesn't have as much experience as Sony's Playstation platforms have in the video game market

- Xbox is bulky as far as its physical dimensions and size goes

- Many of the new release video games cost $50 each

- Xbox doesn't have original games and characters as Nintendo GameCube have (i.e. Zelda, Mario, etc.)

- Video games can be addictive or habit forming

- Video games are time consuming, "time flys when you're having fun"

- Many "good" video games are M for "Mature," recommended for 17+ year olds

- Xbox hasn't sold nearly as many systems as Sony's PS2 (Playstation 2) has

PLEASE HELP ME THINK OF SOME MORE!!! (BOTH PROS AND COS)

- Thanks!

You seem to have quite a bit . A pro for xBox is you can slap a modchip in there and forget the need of buying a DVD player, and the need of buying games. You will need a bigger hard drive if you want to back up games, though.

I'm an avid Xbox owner, and I personally think your list is a little too stereotypical. Both the pros and cons feel like your reaching out to the extremes, such as a con being that 'video games are habit forming'. Why don't you mention the fact that Xbox comes with a hard drive, so you don't have to spend $20x? for memory cards. Or the fact that it comes prebuilt with a ethernet card, saving you even more money. Or the fact that it can burn CDs. Or the fact that it has 4 controller ports vs. Sony's 2. I could go on... Why are you doing this again?

Yeah, pirating games is a GREAT way to support developers :| :|

on the con side..

there aren't many games really appropriate for children.

for that matter children shouldn't play video games or watch tv anyway. They should be outside playing with other kids, or learning to read for pleasure.

The cheap thrill of watching tv or playing a video game can't match the overall experience of reading a good book, but if a person doesn't learn to enjoy reading they'll never know.

The emptiness of the experience of television, as compared to real activities and/or reading, is one of the main reasons young people complain about being bored, or think life isn't rewarding enough. IMHO.

My main reasons for buying an xbox over the other consoles is the fact that every game has dolby 5.1 support, and 99% support progressive scan, with a handful supporting 720p and 1080i HD resolutions. Being a home theater buff, no other system can compete and simply looks like poop when blown up.

Exclusives are narrowing down...and Xbox has just as many good ones nowadays. And most of the major releases come out for all three consoles, and the XBox one always looks the best.

My hands can fit on the controller. I got ape hands and the other two are just too hard for me to grasp.

Xbox Live (even though I'm waiting for Halo 2 to get going with it).

IT was just proven that there is a link between fat kids and playing video games. Also, the kids need to play sports and they dont and thats because of them there video games.

You mean PLAY burned CDs, right?
Cuz the xbox can't burn cds.

For pros, you could also mention how you can rip you own music tracks and play games with a custom soundtrack.

the pros: the graphics are really nice. that's all I know.

I bought an XboX, DVD playback, XboX LIVE!, about 9 games and controller...etc... and used it for about 15 minutes. Now it collects dust!

I purchased mine from a fellow board member. LIVE! was part of the deal. It was an impulse buy.

We plugged it in, put in a game and were like: Now what?

the last games we played were Atari so we were a bit overwhelmed. I thought it might be the games, so I got some more but still couldnt get the hang of it. It has been sitting in the box ever since. I am impressed, however, on the features I read it has and the graphics. We have a 52" HDTV and everything looks awesome.

If I had a kid around the house to teach us, I am sure we would love it.

Getting friends and playing 1v1v1v1 Slayer Pro Halo is very fun, getting a buncha xbox's together and playing 8v8 CTF or something is even more fun.

DOAXBV, DOA3... Ninja Gaiden (when it comes out) should be fun.

There's talk of porting Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 over to XBox too, and obviously those games will look the best on XBox than on any other system (if it's coming out for PS2/GC).

Live is the best on XBox than on any other system - XBox Live users are broadband users, so no worry of modems lagging your gameplay down.

Star Wars:KOTOR is a good game, Fable is coming out for XBox only.

All this talk of Doom 3/Half Life 2 and the next gen FPS are completely missing over Halo 2. With Doom 3/HL2 you're going to have to buy a $200 video card to get decent graphics, with Halo 2 you just buy the game and you get the best graphics you can get without any fancy upgrades (other than HDTV, I have mines )
