I stayed away from it... looked cringe worthy, but y'all makin' it sound quality.

I've watched the entire series, and it's definitely one of the better shows on TV. It's mostly GoT without the supernatural white walkers and crap. Very entertaining, though I don't know how historically accurate it is.

Currently one of the three or four shows I consistently watch on TV, overall very good. Ragnar is awesome.

Seconded. I have no idea why Ragnar would leave her for Aslaug, or whatever her name is. Lagertha kicks butt, she's the female equivalent of Ragnar, and she's much hotter than Aslaug

He didn't really. By dividing the family they effectively infiltrate/command/conquer twice the territory. Plus gotta have sons. Lots of them. Union with Aslaug allows for greater blood line rights. Again, territory gain. The best part is Lagertha knows it and is playing along.

Ragnar's kingdom building efforts are proving fairly effective IMHO.

I'll have to catch up to it again, but the History channel these does seem to be about what MTV is to music,, if ya know what I'm hinting at a bit there.

I could tolerate the History Channel if they decided to do loosely historical-based dramas like Vikings rather than crap like Pawn Stars, Axe Men, Ice Road Truckers, etc. They obviously won't bring back the regular, high-quality documentaries of 10+ years ago, which is the preferred option.

I agree with this. Vikings is lightyears better than any crap "reality" show they have, it's at least loosely based on history and it's entertaining. The only downsides to having this show on history channel rather than HBO or Showtime etc is that they can't have a very big production budget (though they still do an excellent job with what they have), and they can't show any nudity.

That's true, it seems to work out pretty well, and maybe it was the right logical move in terms of building his empire, but it doesn't mesh well with how they portray him as a good family guy early in the series. Either way, Lagertha is smoking.

Yeah. FWIW, they do shoot nude scenes but obviously can't display them on TV (I have the season 1 and 2 blu-rays and there is at least one scene where Helga is completely naked and walks up to Floki in their forest home). There might be more, but I haven't watched them all yet.

I started watching it on Prime. Great show.

I never imagined Viking society to be the way it is portrayed on this show - the raiding, the killing, slaves, etc. The politics and what not are expected, but the ordered chaos was something I didn't think of. Especially the human sacrifices.

Absolutely Aslaug is a huge step down looks-wise. But it seems like Lagertha and him always had a tumultuous relationship.

Looking forward to seeing what Lagertha does to Kalf the first chance she gets.

So, who all watched last night? I thought it was a good episode but I'm worried about the fate of Ragnar.

So are we to assume that Ragnar really is dead now? He staged the little burial thing brilliantly to allow his vikings to sack the city, but it doesn't seem like he's going to live past this. Then again, if he lives, it makes the upcoming battle with Rollo that much more interesting, especially considering what the soothsayer guy had to say to Rollo about his future.

The first few episodes are very 'meh...but it hooks you hard as you progress. I've had a real issue with being overly perceptive to each actor's unique take on the viking age accent. This starts to even out as the people grow into their characters.

It's almost like everyone whispers and has trouble pronouncing words, and is afraid to speak loud and show how unsure they are at how to speak as a viking. Then you have some who just seem to do a modified generic "foreigner" accent.

I see why actors for so long just used the british accent for foreigners...it's known and it's well understood, and easy for us to do. The further east you go, the harder those accents are to do succesfully without sounding weird.
