Virtual PC 2007 problem

Today, downloaded the 32 bit version, installed it (I was surprised I didn't get the standard message about closing other applications... I only had Firefox open, a couple of other innocuous apps, so WTH). After installing, I rebooted and ran Virtual PC. A screen or two in, when I choose a name for the particular virtual machine I'm creating my computer locked up tighter than a drum. Mouse cursor frozen, no keyboard response, not even to a control-alt-delete. Had to hit the reset button. Went through this same scenario 3 times and gave up. Any idea what's up with this?

Did you try to uninstall then reinstall yet?

Did you ever use 2K4; did that one work properly?

Didn't try uninstall yet. Never heard of 2k4. What is it?

2K4? Microsoft Virtual PC 2004.

Yeah, first I'd just try to uninstall VPC 2K7, reboot, then try to reinstall it.

Did the uninstall, reboot and reinstall. Now it blue screens every time. Tried closing my virus program (AVG free) and SuperAntiSpyware too, same thing. So, I uninstalled it and will find and download and install and try 2004 version. Thanks.

Damn, that sucks.
Truth be told, I like the way 2004 runs, anyway; I've had less network issues with that one.
2007 is nice though because you can run multiple VMs at once (I don't think you can with 2004).

I just installed 2007 the other night myself and it does seem to lag my system quite a bit compared to vmware player or virtualbox

virtualbox is another decent alternative if needed. no drag and drop support though

I got VPC 2004 installed and running, evidently, and I installed Win98. Haven't upgraded Win98 to Win98SE yet, another adventure.

What I don't understand is how I get access to files. I open Explorer in Win98 running in VPC and see the C: drive, which is virtual and actually in the .vhd file, I guess. I see the CD drive, presumably, but I don't see the one partition I have that's formatted FAT32. Why is that? Do I have to install my application from the CD drive only?

Sounds frustrating.

Do you think maybe it's getting blocked by your antivirus program?

I think (but not certain) my Kaspersky AV would probably block an executable like that unless it's added to Trusted Zone. I don't remember whether I had to do that, but Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 hasn't given me any trouble. Maybe try permitting it in your AV program/add to trusted zone, or whatever yours calls it?

Maybe this is just a shot in the dark, but might be worth a try. Trying to help.

Are you talking about the problem of lockups when trying to install VPC 2007 or the fact that I don't see my FAT32 partition?
