Visioneer 3100b scanner software

I have an old Visioneer 3100b scanner. I've gotten the needed drivers from their web site, and could order the specific models software from them at $10. The Scanner is not realy worth that. Shareware would be better. Since I don't have the program software for it, can I install the drivers after downloading and then use a generic shareware program software that I can download and use with this old scanner?

You should be able to if it's halfway decent software.

I do have Adobe Photo Shop version 5.0
I installed the driver software and then a icon appeared in my system tray for the scanner, but when I click on it, nothing happens. When I use the photo shop it will scan it. Will photo shop be much better in the long over the software I could order for my model from Visioneer?
