So my company is sending me to Sacramento next week to meet our new boss and to visit the data center out there, but I've never set foot in California no parts. Was wondering if any one has any ideas of what there is to do and see out there. I know I won't be leaving the hotel between 5-7pm PST because they have free drinks during that time but after 7 I wanna see the sites...

Ca is a big state. To see a lot of the cool sites you will have to spend some time traveling.

BTW, the weather there right now is awesome.

Good it will be a welcome change from Dubuque's approaching winter weather...brrrr

I know I should spend some time traveling but I was just planning on staying around the Sacramento area and not going too far since I have to work everyday I'm out there.

I might head down to SF since my uncle lives down there, since there are 3 of us going out there I don't know who will have control of the rental car...

I'm not very familiar with Sacto even though I spent most of my life living in NorCal. Sacto was just a place I drove through to get somewhere fun.

- There's the cheesy things like the railroad museum and Old Sacramento.
- Downtown there's an Imax theatre.
- Most of midtown is 100+ year old Victorians, but you kinda have to live there to appreciate it.
- Definitely check out whoever is playing at Old Ironsides and the Boardwalk. Great great great local bands in Sacramento. They Call Me Ishmael, Low Flying Owls, etc. Definitly not typical radio fare as Sacramento is known for the slightly eclectic tint to it's music ala Cake and The Deftones.
- I live close to the American River in Fair Oaks, so I like running along the trail there, but they rent bikes and rafts and stuff too for visitors.

Just drive around. Stay North of 50 and East of 80. Overall Sacto is a soulful place that just feels way more "alive" to me than the Bay Area. If I think of anything else in particular, I'll mention it.

Being a Sac resident, there are:
1. few clubs in downtown (if you're into that)
2. shopping opportunities in Elk Grove and Vacaville (very close to Sac)
3. an amusement park (minature golf, batting cages, video games)
4. the Capitol and old town Sac (nice places to visits)

Or we can have an ATOT netmeet. There are a few here living in Sac.

You lived in freaking Turlock. Talk about a place you just drove through. LOL. More like speed through.

Granted, most people come from the Bay Area and The City through Sacramento on their way to Tahoe for the weekend. It's beautiful up there.

Actually, the Folsom outlets are probably the best. Vacaville is almost an hour away.

Netmeet would be a cool idea....especially since the netmeets that were suppose to happen when I lived in the Chicagoland area all fell through.

I'm into clubbing and a few of my coworkers that have been out there before told me about some clubs but those clubs you have to spend some money to get entertainment if you know what I mean.

I haven't been to a dance club since I moved up here in Feburary, I could use a night out on the town.

OMG, you mean Rancho? That place is a disgrace. But they just acquired citihood and should be outlawing the nudie bars eventually.

I know there are a couple good clubs downtown, but I never bothered checking them out as I've been non-stop busy since we moved here. If 815 is associated with 1015 in SF, then it's got to be great, but they advertise it on the radio which means it's probably whack....

I dunno what place they were talking about but you have to see it from their point of view they are from Dubuque and the nudie bars here are nothing to smile about so it might have been an improvement for them. Our office is in Rancho Candervo though....

Not Turlock, Merced. I never said Merced should be a destination but it is a great place to live as is Turlock. Much better than the Rat Race the Bay Area has become though it is a great place to visit.

Skip Sacto, it's boring flat sprawling suburbia ala compartively sized midwestern city. Old Sacto is a joke. Nightlife is weak--just blah. A few strip clubs are really good though--up there with the majors in quality. All things suburban (i.e. shopping) is good as expected for such a new sprawling city.

I lived there for many of my young teen years. I couldn't wait to graduate from H.S. and get the fVck out of there FAST forever!

Spend any of your free time and go visit SF (very cool city, lots to do!--90 minutes away by car), Napa (wine valley, very interesting places to visit--90 minutes), or Lake Tahoe (nature, skiing, Vegas style casinos/shows--2 hrs away).

Sacto/Central Valley Cali. is not what most out-of-staters think of California....so skip it or be dissapointed if you invest the time getting to know it when you could visit MUCH more interesting places.

If you go to Folsom, expect the dumbest drivers on earth. And more yuppies than you could stand.

Hey, I work at Rancho Cordova!

There are a couple "gentlemen's clubs" in the area, actually, a mile or two from where I work. The area is growing commercially, with office buildings right off the highway. Can anyone host a netmeet, or we can have it at the OP's hotel room.
