I am upgrading to Cor2Duo and would like to goto 64bit vista to use 4gig ram.

however i am concerned about the programs that can run. I mainly play EQ2 and supreme commander. I know 64bit has now been out a while, are alot of the problems fixed most things run now?

thanks

I'm pretty sure EQ2 will run fine,I know somebody that runs WinXP 64 bit version and EQ2 so don't see why Vista x64 won't,I'm playing other online games with my Vista x64 ie... Star wars Galaxies,World of Warcraft,Vanguard,9 dragons to name a few , all run fine.

That's debatable, SupCom seems to only run great on some people's machines.

There aren't any SC issues that are Vista 64 vs Vista 32 related. If anything is runs better on Vista 64 since you can turn on the large memory aware header and get 4gig of address space (vs 32 bits 3gig) for the app. I had to do that to stop out of memory crashes once it exausted the 2gig normal limit.

Regardless, unless there is some 64 vs 32 issue you want to comment on, I'm not sure that post was overly usefull...

Because I don't think SupCom should really even be a consideration when deciding between Vista32 or Vista64 because it is so unstable for so many people with so many different systems. It seems that no matter which OS you choose it's either going to work for you or it's not.

I was running vista x64 but decided to go with vitsa 32bit becasue of no sound with out buying a new sound card and that adobe premire C3 would work on vista 64bit.
I almost returned the adobe sftware after they told me they wornt working on a 64bit patch for Vista only the 32bit version.
I dont understand why so many software and hardware company's dont try to suport 64bit. It offers you to use more ram and many programs will run better if they had more ram to use.

I think Realtek were one of the first to offer 64 bit sound card drivers, rest were slow, however Creative and I believe Hercules too offer 64 bit sound card driver support,so its getting better and quite easy to check before you install or go Vista x64 if your have the drivers for it.

Generally yes. If you've got your apps installed now, try the Vista Upgrade Advisor at Microsoft's site for possible gotchas.

Most 32bit software will run fine. However, those which include 16bit installers (actually the subset of installers which can't be autoupgraded to 32) or those 32bit apps that include drivers won't work (all drivers need to be 64bit).

Note an app can be a 32bit application and use a 64bit driver. As an example, Vmware Workstation is a 32bit application. They install 64bit drivers on 64bit systems and 32bit drivers on 32bit systems, but the application is the same in either case.

Yes Realtek offers Drivers for 64bit I am using a DS# board with onboard Realtek sound now. But I cant get audio to work on this board using 64bit. I can get audio to run for a few hours on 32bit vista though. I am waiting or someone else to release a card before I consider going back to 64bit, I hope to get suround sound out of the new Sound cards.

The real problem I have is yes everything I ran other than some Adobe products works fine. 64bit has been around for some time now and MS will be droping support I belive for XP soon so this is why I say they need to get the act together and offer beter suport for 64bit Vista, to me it seems support for more ram is what we need.

Hopfuly there will be more support before my 90 step up program is expired with evga so I can go back to 64 bit with a dx10 card, better sound and more ram at the same time.
