This has been bothering me for a while...

I cannot use the fast sleep function in Vista. Whenever I use this, my computer enters sleep, but will not resume (I can see the power is on and fans are running, but monitor gets no signal and keyboard / mouse doesn't work) I have to manually reset the power on the psu to get windows to respond again. Anyhelp? Do I need to adjust my Bios power settings?

Same problem on two systems (64 and 32 bit). We have turned it off on every single computer at work because we found, while those systems could wake directly, the KVM that switches between the macs and PCs stops the keyboard/mouse from waking the systems and pressing power shuts them off.

I suggest you turn it off (but in my experience, if you log into your system with remote desktop, it gives the computer the go-ahead to go to sleep and wont resume when you get back to it).

It's annoying.

Not to make you feel bad, but sleep and hibernate works on my notebook... no issues at all that I have seen in a week.

Sleep worked right after I installed vista but two days ago it mysteriously stopped working right. If I tried to put my system to sleep it would immediately come back on. Last night I tried it again and it worked like it was supposed to so I don't know. My oldest sons machine hasn't slept right since the beginning and the other one is just fine so go figure.

That's because your notebook is manufactured by a large OEM and not a BIY/DIY PC.

OEM's have a fairly good (though not perfect) track record of deliving computers with working power management, due to the engineering level peeps they have doing product development, closer relationships with the vendors who supply their components, and better vetting of known hardware configurations.

Contrary to what some might think, power management problems are most often a bug in a third-party device driver, application, or the system BIOS, not the OS.

same... it worked fine the first day, but then it decided not to work anymore.

my solution: go to power management, change the sleep setting to "never"

then, just wait until microsoft puts out an update or something that'll fix the problem

Are all of you people having problems owners of NVidia GPUs? I recall reading that it was a driver problem with GeForce GPUs (I have the same problem) - after my first post in this thread of course.

No.

<----using a Radeon 9700 Pro and Sleep/Hibernate only works <10% of the time, if even that much.

Mine doesn't work right either, it did for a week or so, now it won't wake up with any input and I have to shut power down at the plug strip to restart my computer. I have a Radeon x1300 video card

I'm having the same problem. Thought it was USB related, but problem persists with all USB disconnected. Found that by disconnecting the speakers (analog mini-out), the problem goes away entirely, and system sleeps & resumes properly.

Removed the SoundMax app/drivers that came with my Asus P5B-E and now using the Vista (ultimate 32bit) native HD Audio drivers, but still having the problem. I'd be curious if d/c'ing your speakers solves any of your sleep issues once you've ruled out USB problems.

Same problem here i have had this problem for a while and my roommate has this problem in XP pro...

A solution that worked for me was turning off the wake on lan in the config for you ethernet controller ... this did not completely solve my problem though only works when it wants too.

Also there is settings in the bios... Anyways my post wasnt really a solution just a couple things that people said worked for them...

The very first thing I did was disable all of the wake on events in bios and it had no affect on vista's behavior.

did you try the network card one in device manager?

Device mana ... Network controller .... right click for properties... power management... allow this dvice to wake the computer

I also am looking for the solution to this problem too cause none of the above things worked for me either

I had/have this same exact problem. My twist is that if I don't log off or lock the workstation I can resume from a screen blank just fine. Otherwise it just hums along with no visual.

For a very brief time on a late beta of the Vista video drivers (ATI) it worked fine. When I went to RTM tho it crapped back out.

I had many of the same issues as folks on this thread - when resuming from sleep the computer would come "on" (power light), but nothing on the screen. I'd usually have to reset (or sometimes even cut the power) for it to come back.

My build: Gigabyte 965P-DS3, Core 2 E4300, GeForce 8500GT, Vista x64.

Anyhow, I originally thought it was a NVidia driver issue since it is listed as a known issue on their latest 8 Series drivers for Vista. Then I came across this blog post: http://www.wildeaboutcomputers.com/archives/8

I tried uninstalling the Marvell network and Intel chipset drivers that I had downloaded from the Gigabyte, and what do you know... the computer resumes without a hitch now.

So if any of you are running P965 chipsets and installed those drivers, you might want to try rolling them back. The two chipset ones that I found were replaced were:

Intel(R) P965/G965 PCI Express Root Port - 29A1
Intel(R) P965/G965 Processor to I/O Controller - 29A0

(both under System devices in Device Manager)

The problem the OP has is that his sleep resumes with no video, not anything else! If we could stick to one problem at a time it would be easier to solve.

In this case OP, I had the same exact problem (with a similar setup). The latest Nvida release notes hint that the problem has to do with the motherboard. It's NOT the Nvidia driver, and installing the performance and reliability updates on Vista that have recently been posted on the forums did NOT help either.

What fixed it for me was going to Gigabyte's website and getting their latest BIOS update (through @BIOS) or here http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Sup...spx?CPUType=Socket+775.

It is actually a beta driver, but is running stable for me. Be aware though that it disables the 1:1 RAM:FSB ratio in the BIOS settings. Hope that helps.
