It was an interesting decision to release a press release like that if those are the results.

Been playing some games on Vista RC1 myself and the games that work seem to run just fine . . . I'm sure when Vista is finally released a lot of these problems will be fixed.

Prey worked fine with Vista...and that's Beta 2...That's supposedly running on the Doom 3 engine...soooo. I dunno. I didn't have problems like they did.

Didn't the Crytek (sp?) team say that Crysis would run better on Vista even if both Windows XP and Windows Vista were both running DX9 because of overhead and some other junk?

Also the second post is right. Drivers must mature, etc.....

Yes they did say that.
Crysis will in fact run better on Vista.

I know Crysis will, but like I'm in a hurry to get another EA flop with aliens. I'm asking about current games running on Vista. Any performance increases?

Because of the completely rewritten device driver stucture or something like that.

So, from my understanding it has bugs in the reference OpenGL driver. Not a huge deal for gamers since we all use the ICD anyway for 3D acceleration. They should fix the reference driver though, because that's exactly what it's supposed to be: a reference.

Yikes, gamers may not want to upgrade.

Similar things were said when XP came out five years ago.

That's exactly what I was going to say.

Difference being that 2000 provided a headstart to XP drivers which shan't be the case this time around although one advantage is a continuity of a consumer product from XP to Vista and thus more impetus to manufacturers.

Still, I agree with the beta OS & driver sentiment.

2000 was a significant improvement over previous Windows' by any measure (offering the stability of NT with the GUI of 95). The major significance of XP was further segmentation of the product which allowed for a lower priced home version while maintaining the higher priced bidness versions (of both 2000 and XP).

Ergo, anyone already enjoying the benefits of 2000 (5.0) certainly had little reason to switch to XP (5.1) and indeed I did not until SP2 and only then for HT and ClearType (which was a bit scammy they were not simply added to 2000 as the need arose).

So, yeah, I don't "get" the excitement over Vista as there seem to be as many negatives (beyond the beta schtuff) as positives which was not the case with previous transitions.

What's with the young woman in the first legitreviews picture? She must be retarded to be clapping her hands with glee at an operating system. Oh wait, it's a "breakthough computing experience". I guess that's like a religious epiphany or something she's having.

So far, so sh!tty.

I have this feeling i'll be running a dual boot system for a while until SP1 or whenever Vista becomes less crappy.

I'm also a little shocked that ATI sent out a press release in which they quoted an employee saying "ATI continues to introduce shipping-caliber drivers for Windows Vista that improve on the stability, performance and feature set of versions past". I beg to differ with this comment as the latest ATI driver didn't work for us on our test system.

If you do want to try out some gaming on Vista RC1 then your best bet is to use an NVIDIA graphics card as it just worked on more games without issues than ATI graphics cards.

ATi's PR team are still happily inhabiting the sewers I see...

Right beside you I see.

Get over it Gstanfor, AEG/HRC "inhabit the sewers" with the likes of people who spread FUD about how 7 series GPU's can do HDR+AA in Far Cry. It's not like you yourself haven't lied in an attempt to slant a view.

Outside of Rollo (who really should not have been part of AEG in thie first place - he didn't have the required personality) I challenge you to show us one instance where the AEG members have acted improperly. I won't hold my breath waiting...

You're sounding exactly like your favorite person: Ackmed. So is AEG better than HRC now? Of course they are, because they represent Nvidia and it has to be better!

It's so much like yourself to expect others to prove your points though. It seems you have such a grudge towards ATI's HRC. Maybe this is why.. Of course, it is much like you to expect others to prove your point. (As that thread shows)

It didn't surprise me to see the childish manner in which you send me a PM linking a pathetic excuse for evidence and then block any possible response, therefore, preventing a private discussion that should be done by PM's instead of in this thread.

And as always, leave it up to good ol' Gstanfor to talk about nothing relevant and troll. The subject here is Vista, not "I'm still bitter about Baumann". Use that reading comprehension to stay on topic rather than play with words to try and concentrate on ATI's HRC.

Excuse me Josh, but this thread was all about the linked article which was all about ATi's PR claim. I merely posted some of the conclusions the article drew after investigation...

Oh, and you've been blocked in my PM's well before my message was sent, rest assured of that...
