Vista incredible slow to transfer files

Hey guys, just a quick question. I just finished installing Vista Ultimate on my new PC and so far, so good. The question I have though is its incredible slow to transfer files. From my old PC I copied over my HD, roughly 200GB using an external HD w/FireWire 400. Took roughly 2 hours or so. Have the computer all up and running now and trying them back, and after 20 minutes or so it's given me back less than 1GB. Using the same FireWire connection and I don't see any error message regarding the FireWire port on my XPC. I recall someone saying that for the first few days Vista 'tests' out the system or what not, is this normal?

Yes, this is a known bug. Contact Microsoft or search for the patch.

Fully updated my Vista, still the same thing. So decided to ditch the FireWire (which was transferring at 500 kbps and estimated it to finish in 1 day 21 hours to give the USB a shot. It's going along at 31MB/sec and giving me a 2 hour estimate.

I have a similar problem with Vista Ultimate and transferring files over my home network to my home server running XP. Its very slow at transferring files. 500megs of stuff can take hours. both computers have 100mbs eithernet and I have a gigabit router. I need to figure out a way to benchmark and trouble shoot my network to see if its my main rig or my server system that is causing the slow down in copying files.
