Vista kind of reset on me

Okay this is very weird. My computer worked fine last night. I shut it down and went to bed. I got home from work and turned it on. It told me something weird about my settings and to check some record. Sorry I should've written it down....

Anyway I have Vista Ultimate. My computer had the settings for optimal performance so it looked like classic windows. Well when it started it's back to how it looks when you first install Vista. Now what is odd is that a lot of the stuff on my desktop is gone except some program icons are still there. Also my programs are still intact in my start menu. Does anyone have any idea what happened? This is so bizarre.

btw I had User Assistant or whatever turned off. Did I get hacked or something?

Restore the system to the "yesterday's state" with the System Restore.

But... I don't know what happened!

You logged in using another profile. Confirm this - what's in c:\users?

I used the same profile. Anyway System Restore worked - thanks.

btw the only big thing i did yesterday was disable the "multimedia audio controller" in my device manager because i think it's my motherboard's onboard audio and i have a separate sound card already. do you think that did it? right now it's back to how it was and it's still there. It has the little icon which means the driver hasn't been updated and the computer doesn't know what it is. It could be my firewire card i suppose? hm./ Under properties it says: PCI bus 0, device 6, function 0

you have to disable it in the bios 1st.

Create another Restore Point now, before you shut off your computer for the night.

To preserve the settings, just in case...
