#1 Vista annoyance... so much trolling on the OS forums that it's hard to find the legitimate issues so you can help.

You cant drag the quick launch bar, or any other toolbar out of the taskbar and dock it on another side of the screen. That annoys the hell out of me.

Did you unlock the tool bar and side bar, task bars first?

i have my side bar floating, and i have the start menu on the sides

Any reason why you don't use uTorrent?....it works great in Vista.

My only annoyance is all of the people complaining about it. That's not directed at this thread, just a comment in general.

Agreed!

Yep. You can move the entire taskbar, but not any specific toolbar off of it. The sidebar is entierly different than the taskbar.

I used to pull my quick launch toolbar off the taskbar and dock it to the side of a screen...now you just cant do that, unlocking doesnt change it either.

Explorer and IE 7 still cannot remember window size.

Windows search. I hate the new one with all my guts. What was wrong with the OLD one?
Is it just me, or is there a way to make the search pane be available always?

So many damn steps to start searching for something by created date or so.

Folder options still suck. I cannot get windows to remember some columns. Created date, modified date...

And there is something wrong with the "point to select" option. Most of the time nothing gets selected when pointing!

2) then you will need a better PC or a better video card, or more RAM

My rig is in my sig...Doubt that my hardware is the problem.

The moment I drag a window, everything becomes fine and dandy...

Working fine for me. Maybe I'm not sure what you're seeing. Please describe.

Windows + F key.

Windows + F again. Use your favorite searches in explorer (Windows + E, favorite links pane) if you are doing something commonly. Date wise you'll find Recents already in there. If you want to search for a range (begining & ending) use a boolean search. See helpfiles.

Sorry, don't know what you're seeing here. Give step by steps to repro.

That's really a Creative Labs problem with their drivers with some boards rather then Vista,Audigy's are working ok in Vista x64.

Not true

and both of you are inaccurate.

see my sig? well mine is working properly in Vista64 it was only missing EAX

last week they FINALLY released the EAX drivers and now my X-FI is working 100% in Vista 64 finally.

re: noises.

seems like you have a configuration problem, or some interference

you might want to open a new topic to talk about it, instead of highjacking this topic

Go over to Creative forums, you'll see a few people with same problem, drivers(either latest or beta)fixed it for some people while moving to a different pci slot fixed it for some others, however some people still have the problem.

Getting back on topic, hmm my minor annoyance was too much HD activity which I fixed by disabling some unimportant programs (Auto defrag, real time scan with Defender,System Restore).

Wow. Those pop/crackle problems with creative cards seem eerily reminiscent of the problems many people had with old VIA athlon boards and creative live cards back in the day.

I've always avoided creative products for a number of reasons and have firmly believed they produce quite medicore products with greatly exaggerated peformance claims (24/96 on a live card, ahem... yeah, upsampled -- lame) and horrible drivers.

I'm using onboard right now and would only replace it with an m-audio card if and when they are done writing Vista drivers.

Maybe the latest batch of creative cards are less phony "prosumer" than the live cards, but based on the weird popping and crackling problems, I sure am glad I've continued to stay away.

Im quite happy with vista 64bit ultimate besides some minor probs that will be fixed next tuesday according to antother post.
Only thing is that it takes ages to start vista when it detects my external wd usb hard drive. If there are any tips to avoid this (tried everything in the bios) it would be great!

Creative's customer support is abysmal. I will never buy another product from them unless they do a 180 or something. The onboard sound that I am using now sound infinitely better in Vista than my Audigy2 ZS did music, games, or otherwise.

I've been running Vista Home Premium for a month now, and I have say that it is slow. Most notably startup, which takes a couple of minutes, and "finding things". For example, when i go to Add/Remove Programs, after waiting a couple of minutes it still won't fully populated the list. When I want to see computers on my network, it takes 15-30 seconds to find EACH computer.
BTW, I have 2GB of RAM installed.

My only gripe with vista is ....

I AM UNABLE TO SORT FILES AND FOLDERS BY LETTER!

I only have a-c d-g ETC ETC WTF is that !?

Do they hate god or something ? lol

Come to think about it the fact that ....

Double clicking the network connection system tray icon or atleast a shorter way to launch A Network connection's current status bothers me allot but not as much as the sorting thing.

Here is something I don't understand. Say I have 4-5 programs open. Some are minimized on the taskbar and some are not. If you hold the cursor of one of the minimized programs it gives you a snapshot thumbnail, but if you hold the cursor over one that is just behind another program in the background it shows it in realtime. Don't know if that is a limitation or what.

The other one that is related to the above is say you just want to get back to the desktop and you press the desktop button. Your desktop shows but now the sidebar is gone and so are the icons. It will reappear if you go back to a program and then close that program which then leaves the desktop viewable. The same thing happens when using Flip3d and you flip to the desktop. Just the picture of the desktop there, no sidebar, etc.
Anyone see this, or make sense of what I'm saying. Always hard to describe stuff like this, instead of just showing you.

The first thing you mentioned I had never noticed before, but you are right. I have a scrolling RSS feed bar running across firefox for instance, I opened two instances of firefox, one minimized and one maximized. When I mouse over the maximised window I can see it in real time, the RSS feed ticker is moving. When I mouse over the minimized one I do not see the ticker moving.

So then I tried to hit the desktop and the flip3D quick launch icons, my sidebar did go away, but my desktop icons stayed.

If you just see an icon instead of a realtime view then the app is not supplying data to dwm for some reason. What happens if you maximize then minimize the one that's not displaying?

Regarding the sidebar...it's just an somewhat special app so if you hit Windows+D or the desktop icon it will minimize off the screen along with the other apps. If you go to sidebar properties and tell it to always be on top it will latch on to the side of the screen and not minimize with the other apps.

The sidebar and startbar will not show on your desktop during flip-3d. I believe this is normal. It just shows the actual desktop itself plus items on it.

Not an icon which I see, it's a thumbnail. But the thing is, for instance, if I open two firefox windows with google on them, and minimize one of them, I can see the ticker moving in the thumnail of the maximized one, but not the minimized one. I can reverse that at will.

If I use the desktop quick launch my sidebar is minimized, but my desktop icons stay, if I use flip 3D, both the sidebar and the icons stay, but they kinda fade.

Yeah, mistaken about the icons dissappearing, but I will try to check always on top for the sidebar and see if that helps.
But yeah, whenever you minimize an application, the thumbnail view will not show the realtime view, just a snapshot.

I don't think it's necessarily displaying a snapshot in that case. It's displaying what the app is showing but the app knows it's minimized and isn't updating it's display.

Try taking the app by the corner and sliding it so that the display is completely off the screen then check and see what the thumbnail is doing.

Main annoyance so far is it saving/applying my folder view settins to all folders. List view ftw.
