I still find it hard to believe this is final pricing, especially for US customers based off Canadian licensing info... I'll believe it when Vista is ready for retail and the prices are released for US customers.

You have to be sh!tting on my face after a bbq.... $349 (plus tax) for vista?

for serial... that is not cool, microsoft. Only way to justify that price is 100% bug free software.... which I doubt strongly will happen.

I think I'm going to be a sucker when Vista comes out and actually buy a legal copy. It should be an experience!

No its a fair price. I mean whats sets price? Will the sheeple shell out the cash for it? Yes. So then It's not a bad move then.

On a side note. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You would have to be a moron to but that crap. Windows isnt really worth it until about 3 years after it release.

I'm just making a wild guess here, but I think a significant majority of the legally obtained OSes out there are OEM versions. I say legally obtained because I don't want to imply that the end users are necessarily abiding by the terms of the license.

I'm starting to think Microsoft's new marketing approach is: "What are you gonna do? Install Linux? Pffft...I didn't think so."

"Based on current U.S. prices, I would expect Windows Vista to sell in the U.S. for the following prices (full/upgrade):

Windows Vista Ultimate $349/$199

Windows Vista Business $269/179

Windows Vista Home Premium $239/$139

Windows Vista Home Basic $199/$99

Of course, these are guesses only"

These are exact words from the article. Key words, "EXPECT" and "GUESSES".. therefore, this article is pretty much crap.

We'll know the price's of Vista when the actual product is on the shelf.

I'll go Windows Vista Ultimate for the 199 upgrade. But I'm hoping I can buy it OEM with some hardware for maybe around $150? Thats not too bad.
