OK... the "deal" is Buy a copy of Windows XP today, and get a 'FREE' windows vista RC1 CD.

Pfffftttt...

Also note, they said that you can only move the license over to a new computer only ONCE.
That means, if you get a new mobo ONE time, then your ok. If you upgrade allot, then your SOL, and must buy vista again.
Lame!

That is 100% crap. Considering how much Vista will cost = :brokenheart:

That's what they typed in, but the speaker sounded like you could just purchase another license key, is that cheaper? Will you need your old XP copy if you have to buy another vista copy years later? Confusing. I think I will try Linux on my next PC.

Webcast was mildly informative, but not worth the "gift", a copy of Vista RC1 if you purchase a copy of XP. Isn't RC1 available for download on the M$ site? Thanks for nothing.

Yeah, get a site license for your home. :disgust:
Just because you want to upgrade your machine a few times, they force these idiotic policies. It is just pathetic.

Then they wonder why the real pirates are laughing their heads off.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2006/10/26...larifies_Vista_activation_to_bit-tech/

"A Microsoft spokesman from the Licensing Dept told bit-tech that this would not be the case. He told us that Windows Vista will not require a system re-activation unless the hard drive and one other component is changed. This means that enthusiasts will be able to swap CPUs, memory and graphics cards out without any worry about having to re-activate with MS, either on the internet or by phone.

Should you change the hard drive and another piece of hardware - for example for a major upgrade such as a motherboard change that requires a re-installation - Microsoft will allow you to re-activate up to 10 times. You will not, however, be able to have more than one machine activated concurrently."

Man, that presentation was worthless.

Is it dead?

The Event you are searching for does not exist. If you are searching with an Event Number that you received with an invitation, then it is possible that this event is no longer available for registration.

Hmm, they didn't mention that promotion. Only offered us a RC1 CD.
Seems to me like those are pretty good prices? Home Premium for $130?

Well, if you looked at the presentation, the last slide was from newegg, and it didn't say anything at all about this.
All it said was RC1 CD free with purchase of XP.

do a search on newegg for windows. most of them now include an upgrade.

MS is trying to do this like Apple, where you knock out the enthusiast who builds and upgrades his own machines. They want you to go to OEM now.

Wow that's quite a deal, basically giving away home premium and business with an XP purchase. I've been wanting to get MCE anyway, this just might do it for me.

I know, Vista will have at least 499 bugs as reported previously, but no one said you have to install it as soon as you get your CD. You could wait until they patch the major stuff or release a service pack.

I wonder if there is a way to reuse the XP on another machine after you upgrade to Vista? Also this says express upgrade....wonder if that means each time you need to format you must install xp then Vista?

I think it will behave like other Upgrade versions, where you only have to give the key code of a previous version.

I'm very tempted too to get the Media Center version now. I'm playing with it on RC2 with my tv card and am reaaaaaly liking what I see.

Actually fellas I would steer clear of this offer.

After some more research I think this deal is only good for PCs purhcased between now and March with XP preloaded on them.

The pdf on Newegg says the same as does the website that is mentioned on the pdf form.

Sounds like Newegg is doing some false advertising big time!

taken from today's seminar on Vista hosted by Monarch Computers:
Question: So is there a discount for people who attented this webinar or what was the free gift for attending?
Answer: The first 200 attendees got a free gift. And if you buy XP you get the coupon to upgrade to Vista and a free 1 GB memory stick. How cool is that!!!!

it's probably worded like it is because the intended consumer of OEM versions of Windows are system builders, not end users. i would think buying a copy from Newegg would qualify for the Vista upgrade.

Won't this just be a bunch of M$ hype? Does anyone expect there to be useful information presented?

Yet another example reinforcing the notion that anyone who refers to Microsoft as "M$" will never like one of their OS'es and their opinion is worth about as much as the lint in one's pocket.

M$ sucks.
