visual basic 6 help?

hi, im a newbie to vb and i would like to ask some questions. i would like to start off by saying that i would like to make a program for myself. which would be my own mail logger. which is basically a program which has the date, the time, something where i can input what mail i got today, who was it from, what date it was received, what date it was sent, what was in it (cc bill, phone bill, etc..) so basically its a database of my mail. i usually forget where my mail went and im a totally messy guy, you should see my desk. would anyone have any idea on where to start? this seems like a really simple task, i hope, but if not then please tell me so. if it is a easy task at that, how and where would i start trying to make this? thank you!

I did something similar to this a long time ago in VB and its not incredibly complex but takes a lot of time (especially if your new to programing). You'll need to know how to create complex data types and store them to file, other than that its all pretty straightforward coding.

This should be fairly easy since VB6 has built-in functions for reading and writing Accesss MDB databases using the Jet database engine. Any decent book on VB should have a chapter or three on this, and you can find code samples places like www.codeguru.com

If you think about it, you need a form for creating new records, a way to list all the existing records, and a form to display one existing record. You could probably clump these together as one form. Eventually you'll want a button to clear out old records, possibly by date ("older than [60] days")

Of course you could also use Access or an Excel sheet to do this without writing any code, but if you're trying to learn VB this is a good project.
