To further expand on the Remote Buffer / Keyserver idea...

Why not pair off PC's and have them point the remote buffers to each other...Then set one keyserver to Mika and one to Clueless...

If Mika goes down, The one PC will then get blocks from the other that is receiving its blocks from clueless PProxy...and visa versa...if Clueless is down...

Any opinions, especially with outages lately?

Ooohhh, I like that. Use nofallback to the dnet keyserver, be sure to keep a reasonably large in buffer, and life would be good.

I normally use frequent buffer updating on the "remote clients" connected to the remote buffers, in addition to keeping a full 24 hours or more buffered on these "remote clients"

It goes to show how individual situations vary, but the key is to give yourself enough blocks in the buffer to survive at least several days.

I'll have to give that idea a try using a bogus proxy address to prove how it works. I really need to get the new 8010.462 client to see how it goes. Most of my work has been with the .458 client.

The 462 client works very well....The fetch/flush threshold time instead of the Update buffers regularly is very nice....I set each PC in the above example to 30 minutes (more or less if you desire) and therefore fill my buffer every thirty minutes (as well as flush!)...

I like that idea more and more all the time, other than the fact that one may end up with more shares on a network than you may want. I tried using hidden shares once. Worked fine as long as the administrator was logged on to the clients...NOT for the normal users though. That is why I will be going to a pproxy of my own on both of those LANS that I mentioned earlier. It solves many problems all at once.

One will go to the pproxy on an NT server. If I don't get full time net access on this job, I'll dial up manually once a week or so while I'm there to flush. I can easily monitor the operation while I'm there.

The sites with full time access will have the pproxy on the firewall box. I'll keep 3-4 days in the proxy buffer in addition to several days in the individual clients. If the firewall box fails, I'll get called anyway, but I normally only visit these sites once a week.

Just seems like a simple backup in case of PProxy (Clueless or Mika) being down....No randoms, unless both are down and your PC's are out of blocks.....Much more unlikely than just on PProxy being down...
