volcano 5, heatsink tape or paste?

i just got a amd 1600xp and a volcano 5 cooler, is the heatsink tape one the volcano any good. I have some artic silver paste, but i don't want to bother scraping the tape of and messing with the silver goo if there is little difference. I am planning to overclock mildly.

also any one know how much you can overclock nanya ram, i.e. how high FSB speeds it can take. I just bought a stick of kingston value ddr ram, and it has nanya chips.

I'd go with the paste regardless. I've seen somewhere that it could make couple of degrees difference and believe me with stability those couple of degres can mean a whole lot.

Definetly the Paste. I just built a system for my friend and ended up using a Volcano 5 I got a Fry's for $7.00. It's ok, but if you OC are going to install anything above 900, I would look at better options. Becarefull with the size of this thing, I had to jam it against a couple of things on the MB in order to make it fit. All it's well though.

Scrap the termal tape w/ sharp razor. Remove the remaining residue w/ alchohol. Then put on the ASII. Better heat transfer than the termal pad.

Read the ASII application instruction on their w/site b4 installing.

I replaced the original HSF on my Celeron 766 with Volcano 5 (AS II on it)
And the temp is INCREASING by 4C (~7F). That's wierd!
While installed, the original HSF couldn't be moved and itwas very hard to take off whereas I can move the Volcano 5 heatsink although I tried to have it tied down to the hooks.
I guess it didn't have a very good contact with the die. But I have applied Artic Silver II and it a big heat sink compare to the original Intel heatsink.
Any idea?
