Volcano 7 cpu fan nightmare

STOP Before you buy a new Volcano 7 you should read this. I purchased a new Soyo MB and a new Volcano 7 cpu fan. The Soyo Mb has a afety feature that shuts down the power supply if it senses no cpu fan connected to the fan header. In connecting the Volcano both ways: 1. as requested by Volcano instructions, the sensor wire to the MB cpu header, and the 2 power wires directly to the power supply, and 2. the sensor wire and the 2 power wires all connected to the MB cpu fan header. IT DOES NOT MATTER, no matter which way you do it, the MB shuts down. DO NOT BUY A OLCANO 7 IF YOUR MB HAS THIS SAFETY FEATURE. The stock cpu fan worked fine. When I contacted Thermaltake (Volcano), with my Soyo MB number and my problem, their sorry support responded by naming a MB entirely different than the one I identified to them and said it was because of the MB. They suggested turning off the safety feature and trying the fan again. That makes a lot of sense, that way if their fan fails I'll be sure to MELT my cpu. Way to go Thermaltake! What do ya say we all buy Cooler Master cpu fans?

Just replace the fan w/one that draws more current (I used a Sunon 3-pin) and the mb will recognize it .............. then you can use the heat-sensor fan that came on the Volcano 7 as a system (or case) fan ............ maybe not the way you planned it, but will acutally cool the cpu better anyway.

You should try the Volcano 7+. I just put one in my system and it runs great. All copper base with 36 micro fins and adjustable fan speed up 600rpm. There is both a board plug and a regular power supply plug. The board alone wont cut it so ypou definitely need to power plug. My CPU temp dropped nearly 15 degrees. My CPU at work was running at 46 degrees. The new fan, 30 to 31 avergage and I have a Athlon 1.4. O o'clocked it to 1.6 and ran it for 2 hours that way and iy only got to 39.

That's perfect. i just ordered the Volcano 7+, because my XP 2000 is running at 50 C, and i want it down in the 30's. I've got the Volcano 6 right now, and i was more impressed with the stock AMD HS/Fan that came with the cpu.

I have the Soyo dragon+ with the auto of safety feature. it never had any issues with me I have the Volcano 7 and it's 100% fine either way I put it. I plug to PSu it runs fine...I plug to CPU fan 2 3pin connector on Mobo with yellow on Cu fan 1 connector it's fine. Sounds like more than our Fan is bad maybe just a bad fan?

i used an extention to connect the northbridge to fan header 1. but you can turn off the control in the bios too. just remember it if you ever clear the cmos.

What fan are you currently using?

By the way, you may be asking too much if you are running 50C now, unless you current fan is really bad.
