Honestly... This is just antique.... This is like collecting... I care about fps, I care about AA. My 9700 pro will only cost you 250 and it will put that to shame. I mean sure it was powerful for its time.... But really...your just left at something to frame on the wall and google at.

Great way to spend you money

Wow, you must have a pretty boring life if you can't appreciate a hobby.

I guess its just his point of view... perhaps he don't see This kind of collection similiar to stamps collection or wine collection where people would pay mega bucks for something they really want.
and know they would never get to make use of it but just display

Wine collection?? Who?

get me another free hosting site please . thank you.

I can appreciate the "hobby" aspect of it, but collecting computer parts just doesn't do it for me.
1. Except for the V5 6000, anything 3dfx is of no monetary or functional value.
2. They're just circuit boards. If you thought they were "artistic" you could fashion V5 6000s out ouf 5500 parts.
3. If you collect cars, wines, guns, etc you have soemthing of value that can be enjoyed and appreciated. Throwing a Voodoo card in your PC is only likely to annoy a person.

Go nuts on the V5-K, but it would be a waste to me as well, no matter how rare. You don't see people collecting 5800Ultras, and you could actually use that as a card.

So how many V5 6000s made it to the street?

it never made it to the streets as Retail, all V5 6Ks are BETA cards
I know that! ,your still missing my point!

How many V5 6000s 'escaped' then?

From that Ebay link
Only a few made it out of the engineering department before the downfall of 3dfx

In the short time I've taken a interest in the 6k I'm sure I've read about 5 seperate cards being owned ,so its gotta be more than a few

i believe made it out means... "were made out" but not cleared to be on retail

coz the final stages are Rev 3
and even that is still a BETA...
there were still know issues on the card.

well, as far as I know, the card was scrapped from retail.
i maybe wrong if I do see an OEM card one day...
but highly unlikely.

Uhh... wow, try taking off the ignorance hat.

Some people enjoy collecting stamps but dont see the value in collecting cars. Some are exactly the opposite. Some like to collect memorable pieces of computer hardware, some dont. Trying to convince someone that their hobby is "wrong" is the epitome of stupidity.

lol

Even if it was just a circuit board. When I first got my A7N8X, I looked at that thing for an hour after opening it for the first time. I have a Voodoo5 5500 PCI and AGP card. I love looking at the AGP card once in a while and just think about what could have been and how great and powerful the card really is. I also sometimes look at my case and the entire world of ciruitry just amazes me. Plus I love looking at the 2 V5 fans. Circuit boards are beautiful.

But, the Voodoo5 5500 just doesn't cut it anymore. Well, it does, its able to run Max Payne 2 With everything on high at 1024x768 and even at 1280x960. The game must be programmed beautifully. What the V5 can't cut is the crappily programmed games with bad engines and such. For instance, Day of Defeat and Medal of Honor.

In college one of my teachers once said that "we have all the power in the world right now. We don't need anymore MHz. What we need to do is make software better." And he was right. It shows when a better looking game like Max Payne 2 can run a lot better than the bad games listed above. Its just sad that so many people suck at programming.

When I contacted EA tech about it. They made up a bunch of BS excuses and told me it was something wrong with me, when I had suggested it was something wrong with them. They said I could try to lower my res. and IQ. And I got steamed and I stopped talking to them because they suck and don?t know what they are talking about.

A quote from the 3dfx-interactive.com website:

The Final Revision of voodoo 5 6000 cards were the last and final models to
be produced. Several hundred of these cards were made, but did not see the
light of day and instead were sold to a third party graphics vendor for use,
making them almost completely unavailable to the general public. Most if not
all instability and or operational issues had been worked out by this revision
type. If your lucky enough to own an operational make of this series, CONSIDER
YOURSELF LUCKY!

I wonder who the "third party graphics vendor" was? It's possible that there are a few crates of these things sitting in a warehouse somewhere collecting dust.

Wow! that's an insane price!:Q ,but I bet it won't drop in value ...................unless Quantum3D dump off several hundred into the market?
Just imagine how sick those guys would feel if they'd chucked them away a few weeks ago!

Anyone know if Quantum3D still has some V5 6000s?
