@Mike Gayner

Honestly, your weirdly angry reply suggests you might, just possibly, be a trifle emotionally over-invested in what is, after all, a computer game. Take a deep breath and relax, there's really no need to take this stuff so seriously. And I'm not going to lose any more dignity by actually responding point by point (it never occurred to me someone would feel the need to actually try and _answer_ those points). Though Barny himself clearly states what was going to happen to you if he hadn't rescued you. Damn, that makes me look as uber-geeky as you.

Now...let's see Freeman CRUSH KILL AND DESTROY the out-dated and excessively cute Mario!!! The diminutive plumber is doomed!!

Gordon Freeman over Mario, seriously? Mario's the symbol of gaming, he's been in like 1000 games, even my grandma would know who he is. As for Gordon Freeman, he's been in one good game and a couple of crappy sequels, and I don't think I could find 5 people who know who he is.

This leap ahead for Freeman rules. Can we finally pack Mario away in the back of our closet with our NES?

I doubt it. Nostalgia will win this one for sure.

Mario symbolizes the stale video game industry as a whole, while Freeman represents the pinnacle of original and well thought out game design.

Mario doesn't have Nintendo forwarding votes his way like Steam does.

I'm happy Freeman is going to win this competition, but it's a bit bittersweet.

The gaming industry is only stale if you're a PC gamer...

Yeah but there's a good reason for this. Mario is an inactive relic. Yes, there's history there - great history. But Mario has done his dash. Long Live Freeman.

Yeah, and Freeman has forums, such as our very own, getting people to vote for him. But a small forum is nothing compared to a Steam welcome message saying "Vote Gordon!"

I bet if you went to a Mario forum and posted 'mario need you' the response would be lack luster, but on half life forums and PC forums, the reponse if huge

Kind of like this guy...

Haha, I can't believe people (most likely kids and teenagers) getting so worked up for an internet poll. And I thought the Nvidia fanboys in Video Cards and Graphics were bad.
