Ok, I am a total noob when it comes to VPN's and I thought I'd give it a go for fun. I read an article that explained how to set one up using trial software at realvnc.com. I set it up like it told me to with the port forwarding and all that and it worked great when I used my wireless laptop to connect to my desktop. So when I get to work and run the remote client software to connect to my PC at home it doesn't connect and times out.
Being the noob I am I have no idea where to begin. The one question I did have was whether or not it mattered that my PCs at home are on a home network and have IP addresses auto assigned by the router. So basically my IPs for my PCs at home are the standard 192.168.1.xxx range. When I use the VNC client software at work to try and access my PCs at home I input a colon followed by the port number after the IP address. My question is can I access the PCs at home that are in a local area netowrk from my work using the generic IP addresses that everyone in the world could probably have?? It seems that would be a problem, but again, I have not idea about this stuff and am just tinkering.
