and i said it looked "fine" ... i generally DON'T run with 'max' AF ... NEVER on the GS ... --except to test it
--neither on my x1950p ... i don't like the blurr

AF (anistropic filtering), not AA.

AF not only helps to reduce aliasing effects on distant textures, but introduces far less blur at extreme angles and preserves much more detail. in essence, it increases texture mapping quality - substantially.

well thank you for the correction from AF > AA ... i will look far more carefully at what i type in future ...

i'll start over ...

i never run with maximum AA ... well, unless i get the HD-XT ... then i will try one of its many modes without performance hit at my res

for what i normally run and what i normally experience in most modern games, the Max AA doesn't look that good for the big frame rate hit it takes

AF has much less of a performance penalty ... yet i still couldn't max it - for new games with the 7800GS ... i *can* with the pro. Hard to really *compare* as i played around for hours in the nvidia CP.

Sorry, but not all of us buy into new, still buggy/unstable operating systems with no real benefit of upgrading over XP at the moment.

Not to mention the fact it is slower in gaming than XP, no rush my friend....no rush.

I am not going to even dignify that with a detailed response, since i can tell you have no clue what you are talking about with regards to Vista.

Some of us have actually used the OS; some of us have used it for a long time.

So please educate/inform yourself before telling me which OS i should be running.

Reason for poorer gaming performance on Vista is largely ATi/nVidia's fault; it's not MS's responsibility to create drivers.

now you sound like a MS fanboy

there *are* issues with Vista

understandable ones since it is a new OS

and there is no pointing "fault" at other companies for Vista inconsistencies

and without ANY doubt - at the moment - all games run faster in XP

that is a single BIG reason for me to 'wait' .... i *only* have 2GB RAM

you upgraded ... that is *awesome* but don't expect us to share your enthusiasm for Vista ... not yet, anyway

i *know* i will upgrade ... when a game i want to play *requires* it

--why before?

i am *already familiar* with it

First off, MS fanboi? ROFL no

Vista itself is a superb OS, with really no major issues.

Unfortunately, there are all kinds of problems with programs when running Vista, as in compatibility, drivers, functionality, etc.
Again, Vista = great, but certain programs & drivers are another story unfortunately...

Also, all games run faster in XP eh?
http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/431/19/

Marginal difference i see there...actually in some of those Vista performance is better.

Don't confuse nVidia's sh!t Vista drivers to be the norm...as can be seen in Guru3D's review, there is little to no difference on ATi hardware.

Anyway, i don't need to argue Vista vs. XP here; you guys are more than welcome to stick with XP.

However, some of us would like to run Vista, as there are many benefits of it over XP, & i do not feel it's improper to expect nV & ATi to get their drivers in order (seems ATi already has for the most part).

Also, i am very disappointed to see that of all the reviews i've read tonight, not one has used Vista for testing, aside from the COJ DX10 demo & Guru3D's HD 2900 XT comparison.

ouch you just said Don't confuse nVidia's sh!t Vista drivers to be the norm.there are many who called me fanboy for pointing out that - especially for the first couple of months - nvidia drivers were less than *stellar*

these guys blame Vista for the driver problems

and i agree that Vista is the Future ... but it is totally unnecessary now

you may *love* it ... but you are not "everyone"

i am *going* to upgrade ... when i have to ...
when games require it

thanks for being an early adopter
-you are helping make my later transition a painless one
