Mounting filesystems in mandrake is like mounting filesystems in windows. It should be automatically done for you already. Every time I've ever installed mdk, it's always detected and automounted both windows partitions without a problem. Are you sure they're not already mounted? Sorry if this sounds like I think you're dumb, but I've found that it's usually the dumbest thing when I can't figure out a problem. Start up a command line terminal and type:

cd..
cd..
cd /mnt
ls

and see what's there. With mdk, you should see:

floppy
cdrom
win_c
win_d

and then whatever else you may have...

Ya its good you came from the dark side. Ya... I deffinately reccomend gaim, but unless you like looking at a whole bunch of code there are no great substitutes to dreamweaver. Everything else though. I am happy to look at what my program is creating for me so I have no problem.

Giving it a go for 3 months is a huge investment. I fail to see how someone spending 3 months trying to learn an OS then giving up is lazy. IMO the OS should be the easiest piece of software to use on the computer. It should be almost completely transparent to the end user. If you are spending months trying to get the OS to work, that means that you are not even spending time on the apps that run on the OS. IMO, that's bad.[/quote]

well, when you move from one version of Windows to next, you have to check what has changed and what is different. So there's a learning-process there as well. So you can't expect migration from Windows to Linux to be 100% transparent, when it aint 100% even with different version of Windows (let alone two different OS'es built on two different philosophies).

Windows is just as hard to use as Linux is. Only difference is that most users have been using Windows (and/or DOS) for as long as they can remember. They have hardwired themselves to certain way of things. When they try a new and different OS that does things differently, they will run in to problems, since the things they know about Windows are not valid in the new OS.

In the words of Yoda: You must unlearn what you have learned . Linux is not Windows, of course things will be different. I have used it for years and I find it more logical than Windows is, and just as easy to use.

There's something of a dichotemy to the Windows OS. On the surface it is far more simple than Linux, just point and click. While at the same time, it is more complicated under the hood... Do you really need a Rube Goldburg machine to flip a switch? Linux's simplicity is it's virtue...

Actually, you are right... it was mounted already, I just didn't know it...

Very true...just gotta know how to use it.

That's the thing... it's like building a car. The geniuses can take care of their own... build their own mustangs and such... (I'm not a car guy, btw... ). But the majority of people like to have everything done automatically, so that it's simple for them to use (read: Windows).

True:

Windows starts out as a huge Skoda with everything you might want in it already, but a top speed of 20mph usage of 100:1. After finetuning by an expert you can turn it into a Lada with a top speed of 45 mph running 10:1.

Linux starts out as a Ferrari F40 with a top speed of 250mph and running 1:100. After finetuning you have a Stardestroyer

Are you sure that you want me to go to your dorm?

Because I am loaded with Microsoft goodies. I will easily contaminate your Linux box.

lol

As am I. I have my fair share of MS products... couple copies of Win2k server (adv, reg, etc), SQL server... etc. Stuff I'll never use for the life of me, but it's still fun to have.

One more note about Linux: The program "linuxconf" is very helpful if you're looking for a graphical interface for configuring various system parameters, including mounting file systems. One other very cool thing about it is that you can open it in an ssh window from some other machine (in text menu mode). Makdrake may also have other graphical tools for this.
