Meanwhile the real #walkaway is growing. Will Hurd has just announced he is not seeking re-election. I believe that brings us to 9 GOP Congress critters not seeking re-election. 7 announcing in the last two weeks.

39 bailed before the 2018 mid-terms. The Dems swung 41 seats.

And that means the GOPs black congressional reps is down to *checks notes* zero.

You're the real racist!

So much so you had to quote him twice!

Don't forget his waving his tiny hands while proclaiming that he's really well hung. That really emphasizes how humble he is. Bigly.

I'm surprised he didn't get fake hands made like Uncle Jack on Always Sunny. Which Turmp is basically what you get if you take every horrible personality trait from the characters on that show and stuck them in one human being.

A impossibly YUGE cock implant would be better, something the size of a roll of bologna.

My wife is a traditional conservative gal who was born and raised in the South and usually votes republican. She hated Trump ever since he was elected. Everyday when she reads the news she sees an article on something stupid Trump did and goes on a rant. I say "yes dear, I agree honey, 2020"
Maybe there's hope.

MEMORIES.....
I remember how excited America was when Obama was running in 2008.
The cheering, the crowds, the happy faces full of hope.
Remember those good ole times in America?
And now what? Hate. Anger. Division the likes of we have never experienced before.
Usually in the past when we had an enemy it was an enemy like Adolf Hitler or Saddam Hussein or Charles Manson.
Today it's your next door neighbor, or your co-worker, or your niece and nephew, or the guy in the car next to you at the stop light.

To fix this it will take something really awful, really terrible to happen to bring us all together once again.
Something much worse than another 9/11.
I'm thinking something not of this world like a massive meteor strike, or the Sun suddenly flickering on and off for no reason, or the invasion of aliens from another planet.
Space aliens with a craving for human flesh.
I don't know if a nuke would even do it. I think it would have to be some horrific astrological event.
Then, just maybe we could find our common ground once again.
Right before that terrifying space alien eats you face off....

Nah, it won't need something like that, but it will take time.

The first thing that has to happen, of course, is removing the Trump regime in 2020 and restoring a functional democracy. That gets rid of a major cause of divisiveness and reminds Republicans that no, they're not entitled to the one-party dictatorship they so desperately want.

The more important part, however, is 2024 (and possibly 2028). That's ideally when the Dems defeat the Republicans again and send a message that the Republicans must modernize their party or be rendered permanently irrelevant. The GOP has to stop obsessing over white, straight Christian men in an era when they're neither the sole arbiters of culture nor likely to have a dominant vote.

The outcome of 2020 is far from certain, but I can't help but see 2016 as the last hurrah of the Republican party as we know it. Goodness knows there have been enough of them bailing in the past couple of years. I'm not so naive as to presume the party will suddenly be enlightened, but it would be nice if it dropped its obsession with courting science deniers and social regression in favor of focusing on finances and the reach of government.

Agreed but I heard this in 2012 and again in 2016.
Zero incentive for them to change

I know what you mean, but I figure things won't play out the same way. First, of course, is that a first-term Trump defeat would pop the balloon. To some extent we're seeing that already with all the Republicans who are jumping ship well before the 2020 election. They don't want to ride this train any more, whether it's self-preservation or just seeing the writing on the wall.

There's also the simple matter of changing demographics. Minorities continue to grow in the US, and there will be a certain point at which the gerrymandering and discriminatory voting laws won't be enough. As it stands, we've seen gerrymandering shot down in a few key states. The Dems may win in 2020 simply because the election will be that much fairer.

Most of Republican senileoold geezer base is being slowly but surely #carriedaway to the cemetery.
And leaving behind a nearly helpless group pseudo men that we utterly failed to train properly. It will end up being the greatest embarrassment of my generation.

They were the pseudo men, fake machos who got cucked out of their real middle class prosperity with lame promises of trickle down.

Not quite. Out of 277 governors, senators and congressman they still one black senator.

Micheal Steel said something funny about this a while ago. Said when he was the Chairman people used to ask him to get more black votes. He said he’ll show them how to do it and he’ll help them do it but he can’t & won’t do it for them alone.
Kind of reminds me of many conversations I’ve had with new sales people. I’ll show you how to do it but you have to do it on your own.

And another one gone, another one gone, another one bites the dust...

Kenny Marchant from the Dallas-Fort Worth area is retiring, according to NYT sources. Notably, he nearly lost his district in the 2018 mid-terms. There's a real chance the district flips in 2020 if there isn't a compelling GOP alternative.

I've said on here before that I was complacently sliding into mid-life / mid-class conservatism but thankfully Donald Trump and the GOP have reaffirmed my core Liberal values (not always Dem values, but still).

Nevertheless, I will definitely not be voting for the party of Trump in 2020 #Walkaway.

And another TX R Rep is retiring. Kenny Marchant refuses to run to keep his seat with Trump tied around his neck.

Hoping that Candace Valenzuela is able to take it soundly.
