Im not impressed. In 2016 it was horribly obvious the guy was evil and full of shit. 62 million Americans simply could not see it.
That a handful of people are slowly starting to open their eyes after two years and hundreds of scandals and thousands of lies doesnt really inspire confidence in me.
I'd move to England but those people seem to be even better sheep for their overlords.

I've wanted to retire to New Zealand for a while. That's only intensified with each DOTUS antic.

Another one retiring

That he goes out of his way to claim that he would've been reelected speaks volumes about how his chances of reelection are a major factor. He won his seat by the lowest margin yet in the 2018 midterms (56%), and that was a huge dip from 2016 (70%). I think he saw that chaining himself to the Trump-era GOP any longer could cost him his seat.

That and it repeats a familiar pattern we've seen earlier in this thread: many vaguely moderate Republicans don't want their lasting legacy to be "Trump bootlicker," even if they did pander to Trump's whims for a while.

Add another:

Representative Peter King

It feels like Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" is an appropriate tune to play here. King was ostensibly prompted by his daughter moving to North Carolina, but I think he also realizes there's a good chance that neither he nor his daughter would win the seat in 2020.

Yeah, also he is 75(?). I keep hearing on the news how much it sucks to be a representative that’s in the minority. Waiting around forever and zero opportunities to be on good commissions.

The problem with all these older GOP retiring is that they will be replaced in the primaries by the categorically insane young Trumptards that have goosestepped into the GOP. None of this really bodes well for the country.

Yes & No, most of the retiring guys appear to be teahadists. Even if replaced by another it’s a wash because it’s impossible to deal with them. There is a chance someone who you could work with arrives. Even if it’s 1 in 10 that’s a start.

Maybe, but one of the GOP's big problems is that it's losing incumbents who could simply count on being reelected because they're the familiar faces. A new name increases the chances that the Dem gets in if support in a given district isn't solidly Republican.

They're all impossible to deal with. These tiki-torchers that are replacing the teahadists make the teahadists look like rational, moderate adults.

To me the question is do you want a guy that you have a one in one million chance of making a deal with who won’t keep his end of the agreement or do you want a guy where you know he won’t ever make an agreement with you.
Tricky question, I lean toward option two because it is easier to understand.

Tragedy!

Trump's actual African American has walked away.

The sad thing is that I've seen people on other forums who are convinced Trump is attracting more black voters. Admittedly NYC isn't the best place to find sympathetic people regardless of skin color, but I suspect reality still doesn't work in Trump's favor regardless.

His policies supporting white supremacy tend to drive away most POC, with the exception of the especially dull and, of course, the grifters.

Trump fans have convinced themselves of many things:

Miller isn't a Nazi
Trump isn't a (retarded) Russian agent

These aren't smart people. ....at all.

Yoho goes with a bottle of rum:

In this case it's not so much walking away as it is "I'm glad my promise coincides with a good time to bail." I just wonder if this will move the needle at all for the vote in Yoho's district. He won solidly in 2012, but the combination of bringing in an untested candidate and general anti-Trump sentiment could tip things against the GOP in 2020.
