I thought anything over 500 was considered grand theft? Could depend on the state I guess but I wouldn't call that a slap on the wrist. Not to mention credit card fraud.

The police never do anything about it. Not unless the CC company hand delivers them all the investigation/info and the perp in handcuffs.

The only companies that actually check that stuff are hotels and rental car companies. Where I work, the name on the credit card has to match the name on the license. Since it's a high fraud industry, we have to cover our asses. Imagine if someone f---s up a $30k car with a stolen card!

You'd be surprised though how many people fight it as a major inconvenience. "Why shouldn't I be able to use my wife's card, even though she's not here to sign?!" How do we know she's still your wife.

Minimum wage employee doesn't want to deal with the potential (violent) confrontation with the scam artist or is too burnt out from the weekend sale to care. The person will probably be fired over this but I think you're doing them a favour.

I am going to tell you what a ticket broker told me when I called up asking them who this charge is from and why they allowed it; "Relax, just dispute it with your credit card company and you won't have to pay for it".

So, some kid, who got my card # (from an electronics retailer in NYC), worked with another kid who worked for the ticket broker (in NJ) - to get a free show.

And, NO body gave a fuck. My credit card company reversed the charge. No one was going to do anything about it. Now, if this was chronic, I would be part of the problem most likely. And the authorities would get involved.

Also, I am certain credit card companies claim these fraud charges on their insurance.

You however, want to give the impression that you will avenge and correct the beast that is Walmart. Maybe you should go down to that location and wag your finger in the manager's face?

Take some pictures of the indifferent look on his face as he listens to how you expect things to run in such an establishment.

just got around $1200 of fraudulent charges on my damn card from walmart.com. Of course i find out after business hours for my bank and for some reason the automated number says im locked out of my account

I experienced the same thing. Someone stole my number (not my physical card) and was using it at Walmarts all over the place. No idea how they did it. Fortunately my bank was easy to deal with. No word on if they ever got caught.
