That is entirely due to your healers sucking. Run with healers that don't suck, really makes a big difference. If they can dps or not, a player that sucks is going to suck.

I think that is probably you, I can not stand WoW's default UI. Been running XPerl for a long time now, WoW by default sucks IMO.

Oh well frustrating when you in RvR and your side has like level 7 and 8 players and Destruction has virtually all level 11 players

Well, not sure why anyone would want to roll Order, never understood rolling ally on WoW either though

Simple Order are under populated thats why ,as to healers well I agree its down to good grouping since I have a tank alt and was fighting low level PQ end boss hero type class and another tank had to shout out to the healers(Rune Priests) to remind them to heal me when my health was right down to 15% or so.

I'm really surprised - I've heard nothing but "OMFG THE BEST EVER!" about this game so far from just about everyone. It's worse than AoC was at launch. By far.

Are we playing same game I have everything on max and it looks ok( close to EQ2,Vanguard standard IMHO), very few glitches in my gameplay(only seen one) I suspect maybe you have some overclocking glitches due to hardware overclocks?

The main problem I have is some lag on very populated servers (example being warcamp in Empire area near RvR Tier 1) I hope they get it fixed soon I got a feeling they underestimated how many players would be on the servers, like yesterday the server I was on (KEP known as Eight Peaks) crashed twice so they were forced to do a restart.

Our monitoring team has reported that the server Karak Eight Peaks is suffering some technical issues. Our technicians are currently working on it but, in the meantime, players can expect some disconnections. Of course, we will keep you updated with any info regarding this.

Thank you for your patience.

That explains yesterdays problems.

Got the game Saturday night and am up to R8/9 (can't remember) DoK. I'm having a blast in the game and have only a few minor gripes I'll get to in a bit. As for the lack of healing, I find that I am always the top end destruction healer but I still manage to get in the thick of things and throw down some dps. So, if anyone is having trouble getting heals they are just running with people who have no idea how the hell to play their class.

Gripes. I'm not used to getting stuck on objects so frequently. Hopefully they can find some way to make this less annoying... or I could just start going around.

Second, the alt-tab bug needs to be fixed (like yesterday). Even when I know I'm not supposed to do it I still end up doing it. It's just habit.

Third, I'm worried about end game. I've been doing some research on server populations and can already tell Mythic will need to do something to level the playing field. I don't want to play Order but I don't want to be part of some zerg force either. I didn't buy the game for scenarios (aka battlegrounds) and if everything stays equal on my server (2:1 destro to order pop) I have a feeling the game is going to become a scenario fest. Not interested.

Uh alliance haven't outnumbered horde on a majority of servers in like 2 years. It's completely flip flopped since then.

alt-tab doesn't black screen for me, it just takes a few seconds to come back up. If uncheck fullscreen you won't get that and it runs just fine. Transparent heads is a known issue with ATI drivers, you need to turn off Adaptive AA not anisotropic filtering. There's also an issue with AA/AF not working if you have specular lighting enabled. I have mine turned off and it works great, I get 50-90 FPS usually. There are so many servers out there without any queues to them, blame your friends for picking an overpopulated server.

Although it would have been nice for the game to be perfect out of the box, with a little tweaking here and there it's all good. I found that Tier 1 isn't the best indicator of good PvP as people are still learning how to play. Tier 2 has been good so far with Order and Destro being pretty even on my server, sometimes we destroy Order and sometimes Order rapes us... overall I can't stop playing...

Were you able to find a "Show FPS" command in the game, or are you estimating your FPS? I didn't really try too hard, but I wasn't able to find anything to show it.

Just for a point of video card comparison: I've got an 8800gt, an e2160 OC'd to 3.0 running Vista 64 with 4 gigs RAM. The game runs smooth as glass 99% of the time; the only time I've had noticeable slowdowns were in T2 RvR with more than probably 50 or 60 people on the screen at once. Even then, it was still playable. I'd probably in the upper-teens to low 20's.

I pretty much always play the underdog side in games like this, so for the first time ever I ended up on the good side with the prettified characters. Kinda bizarre. Anyway, I've got a level 18 Swordmaster on Azazel and I have to say I've been having a blast. Even at these levels the PvP is fun and interesting, with good rewards and incentives to do it.

An interesting sidenote about this game I haven't seen anyone mention: unlike most of these games, there's no real incentive to just power-level your way to 40 asap. The only way to do that is to grind PvE non-stop, and if you do that you'll hit level 40 with no Renown Rank worth mentioning and someone a few levels lower will most likely destroy you with the stat bonuses and such you get from Renown points. I've been focusing on trying to keep my level and Renown Rank about the same, leveling almost entirely through PvP and Public Quests. So yeah, the game doesn't feel like you need to hit max level for the real game to start. You're playing it the whole way through, you just get a bunch of cooler, more interesting skills at higher levels. Fun stuff. Also, you can use all the siege engines (including boiling oil!) and such at low levels so you don't feel like you're just waiting for the real content.

(Edit) Some more quick PvP thoughts: as a tank, I actually feel like I can tank in PvP. With a good healer or two on me I can live through getting focus fired by at least 5 or 6 people (Hold the Line! is freaking awesome, more on that in a sec) and I also feel like I'm able to protect my squishies well between Guard (you take 50% of the damage they take) and the snares, knockbacks, and actual collision detection. Collision detection is pretty damn fun, too. As a fun example, I was in Stone Troll Crossing yesterday when two Marauders were chasing around the Rune Priest who was healing me yesterday, right up until the part I pinned them both up against a rock and held them there for a few seconds until the rest of the Order team got there.

Also, more on Hold the Line! to get a sense of how the skills are useful and also encourage smart player and skill interaction. Hold the Line! gives you a 45% chance to dodge or resist any attack or spell made against you while the ability is up. It also gives everyone up to 40 feet behind you a 15% chance to do the same, which stacks up to three times so the three tanks charging at the front of a group give everyone behind them the same 45% chance to avoid an attack that they get. There's no cooldown and it drains 20 action/second out of the 250 Action Points you get. Awesome ability and very balance.

This was not a game I had high hopes for (quite the opposite, honestly) but it's really been incredibly fun. Hopefully it'll continue this way.

There is no show fps in the game so I use fraps. It looks like the game itself is capped at 100fps as I didn't see it go beyond that. I get that at the title screen and then on average about 60-70 I'd say with shots up to 90 on occasion and as low as 40.

There are a few tweaks you can do to improve performance in-game, one I just read about is removing the combat tab that displays all your combat logs. I don't have a use for those so I just turned it off and it has helped a little but I haven't gotten any lag anyway so might help others out.

Quoting myself because I forgot to add one more gripe.

I find it odd that the gear I get through scenarios is subpar relative to the PQ/PvE questing rewards. I'm having a good time balancing out my PvE and PvP/RvR experience but the gear differential seems way off between the two. Hopefully this balances out eventually.

Yeah I notice that too about the gear, nice PQ/PVE gear drops so far for me.

I'm still enjoying the game and have 4 alts on same server,I'm not one fo these guys that all they think about is level 40 ASAP,game is more then that to me.

Yeah, a lot of the best gear seems to be from PvE, especially the elite Influence rewards from Public Quests at the various chapters. On the plus side, it's roughly the equivalent of hitting an Exalted reputation for a WoW faction in an hour and a half to two hours with good exp and some other nice rewards along the way from the actual loot bags. Some of the PQs are actually really fun, too.

In most MMOs I tend to be a get-to-max-level-asap type of player, albeit not an eye-bleeding marathon power-leveler. Played fairly hardcore on my bear shaman and hit 80 like two days before the 30 free days were up. Very glad I did, too; gave me a day to run around and see what there was to do at max level, then promptly canceled before I got billed for my first month.

I think a lot of it is general design philosophy. All but most casual MMO players will hit max level in a few months given the current norm of leveling rates, so the devs focus the most effort on the end-game. WAR actually has plenty of PvP, RvR, and PvE content all the way through so you're not missing out on much at lower levels except for class tools. Really enjoying my Swordmaster but I'm starting to consider an alt now. Just need to figure out which class ...

PQ is so frustrating and complicated. According to the roll log screen, I won a loot bag, but there's no option to loot the bag. >_< I was there for the entire 3 phases of the PQ in a group. Sigh...

Look around for a big glowing chest, then loot it. Once the loot bag is in your inventory, you can open it and get a choice of a few different rewards, usually a weapon/piece of armor, then a bunch of a trade skill stuff.

Have a rank 9 witch hunter on wolfengard, loving the game so far

Question: I have an 8800gt and since there are no customization options in WAR for graphics really, does it run off the nvidia control panel settings? What do you guys put your settings at? Thanks

Forcing AA works, not sure if forcing AF does anything. I forced vert sync and AA with mine, the game looks much better with AA imo. Right now I have it set to 16xAA at 1920x1200, looks pretty sweet.

OK OK... I will admit that I was taken in by the GLO of Age of Conan reviews, user inputs... ETC ETC ETC.. YES, there were some negatives... Even Warnings... Yes... Yes there were.

But none outside the norm of any good game... Even HL2 had its detractors...
The ONLY game I think I have NEVER heard anything bad about was Total Anihilation...

But lets cut to the CHASE.. AOC SUCKS.... I am no care bear.. I enjoy a good gank (fair or unfair) as the next guy.. But AOC was brutal... To spend 20 levels in "training"....
UGH Wrong... Then, I step outside the city... 3 60's do NOTHING but kill every 20-22 there for HOURS on end.. I was able to get a few messages out to the other guys they were ganking.... We tried everything... We kited them to guards... ALL GUARDS IN THIS TOWN WERE BOW EQUIPED... So they (the guards) spent more time running and drawing a bow than shooting.. They (the gankers) would DOT me, dance out of range... DOT me.. Rinse repeat..
Maybe..... MAYBE two arrows got off from the guards... But never enough to kill them or worse... MAKE THEM STOP.....This happened too often...
And I NEVER NEVER Gank a lowbie more than once...
Really...

That being said... I am waiting for 2 weeks.... Although reading EVERYTHING about this game makes it tough.. I loved DAOC its first 2 years... IMO Mythic was a GREAT company.. But I am burned from the AOC thingy for now.. I need time to heal..
Unless there is a great sale on this game this week.
Anyone know of any?

You normally get a group of players go towards the chest anyway to pick up their loot so just follow them if all else fails.

The chest spawn seems to be in a set location for the PQ, also, and with some of the bigger PQs, they can be very easy to miss. I did Chapter 9 in Wolfenberg a few times yesterday (little burned out town, kinda reminiscent of Stratholme from WoW) and we killed the final boss a few times on the opposite end of town up a hill. Probably would have never found the chest if we hadn't killed it a few times before.

So, yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. The normal MMO trope would be for the chest to spawn where the boss dies, and I was confused about it myself on my first few PQs.

Here's a tip if you're having problems with AA not working:

1. Go to your <warhammer install directory>\user folder and edit the UserSettings.xml file.

2. Go to the <Performance> section and make sure that the level is set to custom1, <perflevel level="custom1" />.

3. Turn off specular lighting in custom1 by setting specular="false". Is in an attribute in the <perfcustom1> tag. This change alone has helped a lot of people with ATI cards force AA.

For some reason you can't manually turn it off if you have the highest settings set so editing the xml file is the only way to change it.

Also setting the Texture memory slider to largest will make things look prettier and eliminate a lot of blurred textures in the distance but will also tax your video card so you can play around with that to see what works best for you.

If you're experiencing stuttering and choppy lag when you know you shouldn't try turning off the battle combat log. It's the tab next to the regular chat log. Just right click it and remove it and see if it changes anything. Memory leaks and such might be attributed to that because it fills up fast.

WHen does this kind of RVR happen? [copied from another message board]

"Got to the RvR zone in the middle of a good sized battle... maybe 30 attackers v 20 defenders, and because I was a witch hunter i could cloak and ran for the back door into the keep. The attackers had a battering ram and were pounding the door, and I was able to bolt up the stairs and get to the pot of boiling oil just as it reappeared from being demolished. I quickly filled it up and unleashed it on the attackers underneath and killed a good 15 or so of them... and then just for good measure... i poured on them again. We then took up the guns on the keep and kept them at bay for id reckon another good half hour until they redoubled not only their efforts but their army and eventually broke us down"

That is open RvR and happens in areas of the map designated for RvR. Sounds like a keep siege. The first keeps you'll encounter are in Tier 2.
