HP's got this graphing calculator for $179.00 + shipping. And somebody posted that hp 's got a rebate also. I'm just not sure if its applicable to every item they sell. Its got 1.5Megs memory, hard cover, advanced computer algebra system (?). Maybe somebody can PM this item someplace else.

Rossman:
The rebate on the 49G is 75.00. Kind of funny that Staples at 202 is more than HP's website price of 179.99. Minus the 40 brings it to 162 plus tax minus 75 for a total of around 100 including tax after rebate for us in CA. Seems like a good deal.

I just checked the HP site and the serial interface is 35.99 which seems to be included with Staples' 49G. That makes the Staples deal the best. This way Staples is charging 22.00 for the interface setup as opposed to 35.99 at HP

I'm going to get either the 48gx or the 49g. I really like the "old style" keys on the 48GX, but the 49G is faster and has more memory.

I need an HP replacement for my HP-16C, which I noticed recently is going on fleabay for $300! I shouldn't be carrying that around in my backback as a daily use calculator. It's going in my "cool things" box.

I think I'll go with the 48gx; it's probably more calculator than I need and I like the keys. The staples deal, if they pricematch hp.com, is: $149.99 - $75 rebate - $30 Staple coupon = $44.99.

What *is* it about RPN calculators that I love so much? I can't use normal algebriac calculators any more!

I wish I could get used to RPN calculators but it's just not normal!

Do TI calculator's do anything better than HP's?

Probably same functionality, both have active shareware software communities.

Btw, the 49G can operate in normal algebraic mode or RPN mode.

I *much* prefer RPN, though - I like having the last result hanging out on the stack, where I can use it the next round of calculations.

As a bonus, no one ever asks to borrow your HP calculator, since they can't operate it!

RPN's are great! I used an 11 (or 11C) in college. They quit making that model long ago. The HP 12C is the financial model they've made for, it seems, 20 years. It's also RPN by the way. The 11C looked just like it. Cheapest RPN is the HP 32sII for 59.99 but the 48g + RPN is 99.99 with a 50 rebate for 49.99. I might have to jump on that. I still miss my 11C

Just get the TI89, I think it has 1mb of memory, but has a nice userface and some nice easy to use functions.

The only thing I ever saw that did more then the 48gx was the ti-92, all of the others were inferior. Once you get the hang of RPN you can run circles around regular notation. That price on the 49 is great, almost makes me want to go back to school....yeah right. Later
